Source isn't what you'd call reliable...this could be a computer assisted image, but since the subject matter isn't of any grave importance, who cares? If it's a joke, not much profit gained by it...

It just looks cool.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

Not all that unusual. Domestic cats often turn up with a few extra toes, especally on the fore feet. If you ever visit a dairy farm, look at the barn cat population. Many will have them. I've seen as many as eight toes on one foot.

I have a cat who is equipped with those. He's sitting right here next to me. He likes to grab onto my hands with them when I pet him.

They call those, in FL anyway, Hemmingway cats. Because the cats that live in his house in Key West have that thumb.

I had a cat(two actually), that I rescued from a woodpile during a big rainstorm (had to feed him with an eyedropper for a couple of weeks before he could eat/drink anything besides the special formula), who had those thumbs. My sister still has one of the two.

The cat could literally pick up a pingpong ball in one paw and throw it at the wall... then of course he'd chase it down and repeat the process... usually at 3am.

He lived for 15 years, kinda short span for a domestic indoor cat... renal failure got him though.

Thats not such a stretch as you might think. Opposable thumbs enable tool use.

If you took a population of those cats that bred true with the opposable thumb and set them up someplace where that thumb was a major selective advantage... tool use would likely put in an appearance at some point.

Shows you how simple genetic variation can add an opposable thumb to a species that didn't have them previously.

Think about this - even without opposible thumbs [in most cats] they manage to spend 14 hours a day sleeping while we go out to work to afford the catfood that we schlep home and serve in nice little bowls - not to mention cat toys, catnip and cat doors.
