This isn't a harmless diversion, or an amusing con job, or a naive attempt to comfort; it is pathological evil:
quote:
Studios USA's 'Crossing Over with John Edward' will attempt to communicate with victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in several episodes planned for the November sweeps for the syndicated and, perhaps, cable runs of the show.

Oh, this is rich: "Steve Rosenberg, the studio's domestic syndication president, anticipating concerns by viewers, says the shows 'will be done tastefully…and won't be exploitative[.]'" Sorry John, the cat's out of the bag. You are a rich man because you televise your magic tricks, done with full gullibility by others. Sounds like exploitation to me.

I just fired off an e-mail to Steve. Okay, maybe I shouldn't have refered to believers as "persons with room temperature IQs".
Sorry folks, but this is sick.
I know everyone is sick of hearing this, but my husband is in Qatar. Last time he was there, an Iraqi stabbed him. He's okay, one little scar. The Iraqi bones should have healed by now, its been nearly a year.

Anyway, if something would happen to Ed over there and someone would come to my door with an offer to contact Ed "on the other side". Warning: I'm armed.

I just called James Randi (yes, the James Randi), and he knows about this. Matter of fact, he will be discussing it on his webcast tonight at 9:00 Eastern time. Here is his page for the program.

And to show what a complete moron I am, I fired off an e-mail to the wrong person. He was kind enough to e-mail me back with the correct address. So I fired off yet another e-mail to the correct address. Haven't hear from the company yet. But I did hear from the first gentleman. He's heard that the show has been axed.

Lisa, calm down enough at least to see. You, unfortunetly, are letting rage to blind you. Take a couple of deep breaths...In...and out...In...and out. Feel better? Good. Now start firing off flaming e-mails to the arseholes who believe in this crap-trap.

This whole thing wouldn't piss me off so much if it wasn't completely clear that John Edwards is a complete charlatan. If I thought he at least believed in his abilities I could halfway stand it but since the whole idea was just to put on a show and drive up ratings it's just 100% distasteful.

This is great stuff. Someone suggested on the JREF forum that Edward should attempt to contact the dead hijackers in lieu of or in addition to the passengers/crew. Oh, if only there was a way to plant one of our numbers in the audience for that show....

Hooray, it has definitely been axed:

Company president Joel Rosenberg cited "a reaction that nobody expected" in the decision. Maybe he saw Lisa's letter.

Heh, I almost wish he had done all the shows and they were aired so that he could join Bill Maher in the 2am wasteland...

Good idea, it would be the scoop of the century: "Tell us Mr. Atta, what's it like in Hell?"
"I was screwed!! OUCH!! OH SHIT, watch the pitchfork, wouldya'. It's hot as, well, you can't even imagine how hot it is. The 72 virgins are here alright, but they're rabid female baboons, not human women, and they're virgins because all the male baboons are scared of 'em. OUCH! goddamit anyway! They sink their fangs into my ass everytime I try to take a leak. OUCH! AHHHYEEIKES!! Wait'll I see that lying rat-face pig bin Laden. Satan promised that I get to torture him first. OUUUCCHHH! geez, that was a bad one. Anyway, he'll think his cave is Club Med and napalm is warm brandy when he sees this place. YIKES, here come the baboon-virgins again, gotta go. See ya' soon, Osama!"

Actually, fantasizing about us sinners being tormented in hell seems to be one of the Xtians favourite hobbies.

But it sure would be nice to see the faces of all those righteous persons who found out they belonged to the wrong religion.

Well, I received an e-mail this morning basically telling me to calm down, the show has been yanked. I'd love to know how many nasty-grams the company got in regards to this little escapade. They're probably all filed under "What on Earth was I Thinking?"

Score one for skeptical activism. Nice job Lisa, we'll just assume it was your letter that caused their mind-change and leave it at that

I'd like to think my letter had something to do with it, but it was only one of about a gazillion they received. Do you think the term "media whore" was too over the top?
