http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=1186575 This raises so many issues with me starting with a parent who is so afraid of being reported to CPS over a couple of scratches on her child's face that she wastes police officers' time and my tax money reporting this. For crying out loud, kids get bumped and bruised every now and then. And why would anyone allow a six year old to carry around and be so attached to a pacifier? Or, an even bigger question perhaps, why didn't an adult intervene before this became a slugfest. But then, I've often wondered at the number of middle school kids I see everyday who still suck their thumbs. At times, it seems we are a fearful insecure generation raising an even more insecure generation.

As a parent, I can tell you that among four- and five-year-olds, things can go from playing together to "slugfest" in under ten seconds. So the kids are playing nicely, you turn to flip the burgers, and the next thing you know, there's screaming and tears.
I imagine the same is true for six-year-olds. I'll find out soon enough. |
