"A record 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies include gay and lesbian employees in their nondiscrimination policies, according to Equality Forum, a national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization.
"'When over 90 percent of the Fortune 500 companies recognize the value of their gay and lesbian employees, it is time for Congress to listen and respond," stated Malcolm Lazin, executive director of Equality Forum. "Only sixteen states have laws prohibiting sexual orientation discrimination in private employment, and no federal protection exists for gay and lesbian Americans.'"

It's one of the funny things about being gay, compared with racial minorities and women: 1.) Gays pop up in every economic strata. 2.) Gays can choose to stay in the closet. As a result, unlike those other minorities, gays have as much money to spend, and as much higher education as the general population. So in order to not lose customers or skilled employees, more and more companies are opting to give gays the equal rights that the fucking government refuses to give.
When a blind and amoral system like capitalism is working better toward human rights than the fucking government, there is definitely something wrong with the government. Moral values are definitely a high concern for me; social conservatives in this country are stripping America of ours.

Heh. The company I work for (and which is among Fortune 500) does that since 1984, being (according to them) the first to include sexual orientation in their non-discrimination policy. It has always had a history of supporting minorities - shows it does more good than harm.
Pity the government can't see it. |

I bet the fortune 500 have it in thier policies to avoid discrimination lawsuits. A lawsuit, even if won by the company, would be bad press if it was over discrimination against homosexuals. |
