And I find myself with no ferocious-looking reptiles to greet our local, juvenile extortionists -- at least, none that are reasonably, nor even slightly safe to present to them. I am also suffering a dearth of creepy-crawlies. So, I think I'll do it a little different this year...
I think I'll do a costume, yes. I think I will be Micajah Harpe, Big Harpe, of the Natchez Trace, who, together with his brother Wiley, Little Harpe, terrorized and gleefully murdered travelers on that bloody trail in the late 1700s. Yesssss... I already have the necessary weapons less the tomahawk, which I can aquire easily.
Big Harpe was once quoted as saying to the effect that it was "best to chop the bodies up, 'cause the 'gators like their dinners in chunks they can swaller 'thout chewing."  
And in place of Snickers bars, which I will eat myself, I'll hand out Hairy Polarity samples...

Filthy, I'm glad you're in the mood to convert a few little sinners. Give 'em hell. If Tim Wildmon likes it, it's got to be a hit with all them little rugrats.
But, we don't get Trick-or-Treaters in our neighborhood. There's just couples with kids that are all grown up and moved away, mostly out of state. The kids are sveral blocks away.
As for gators...Well, this is Luisiana...
Down here it's All Hallows Eve. Then, it's All Saints Day. Then, it's All Souls Day. I can't keep track. All I know is that my wife drags me off to her home town about twenty miles up the bayou, and we have to watch the priest walk around and chant in Latin and sometimes in French or English as he throws holy water on the crypts and concrete vaults. It's soooo much fun.
But, before we get splattered in holy water, (and it doesn't really burn atheists--Really! It just sizzles a bit, then goes up in smoke), we have to clean up all the relatives' graves. That's a real hoot, too. Fortunately, after all the dead people stuff is over we cook gumbo or fish coubillion and drink beer.

Tim, it reads like you might have a bit of fun, especally if you get to clean the graves of people you never liked. Me, I'd go just for the gumbo -- never had fish coubillion, but I'm adventerous....
In truth Siberia, unless you do it the way I do, genuinely frightening, at least to a point, you ain't missin' much. It's all so commercial that it has gone from merely silly to downright stupid. As have all of our celebrations, come to think of it.
I am curious if there will be any Bush masks making the rounds. Now that would be scarey.

| I think a Darth Cheney mask would be more scary that a Bush mask, especially if you can make a replica of his heart as part of the costume. I'm thinking black and charred looking with various contraptions attached to it. |

We get some annoying punks that learned about Halloween on TV/english course ringing our doorbells, though. Scaring them would be truly awesome... |

Most fun I ever had was last Halloween with a plastic rock. It sat out near our front walk. It has a motion sensor in it. When it trips, orange letters on the rock blink "BEWARE" and you hear a deep "MU-HAHAHAHAHA!"
So I had some windows open, lights on, and I was sitting in the kitchen. I could hear the groups of kids giggling and talking amongst themselves as they started up our sidewalk until... "MU-HAHAHAHAHA!" and all turned to screams. I could meet the kids at the door before they hit the bell, and their eyes always betrayed their recent fright.

Always. I worked in the costume rental business for many years. Masks of the presidents are a perennial favorite. One time when Ronald Reagan came to my town for some political propaganda event I wore a clown costume and a Reagan mask and walked with a group of protestors outside the arena where the event was held. I don't even recall the purpose of his visit or the reason for the protest. I imagine wearing a mask outside a George W. Bush event might earn one an all expense paid, indefinite stay at Guantanamo.

That's very interesting, however I saw one inaccuracy: Election 2,000. It had Bush sales at 53% and Gore at 47%, but Gore won the popular vote by something like 500,000 +, and I won't go into the EC cheat -- that's for another thread.
Well, I've ordered a replica trade tomahawk -- they can be had for very small $ -- and dug out an old and very funky, oilskin duster for a coat. My old 'Nam era K-Bar will do nicely for a fighting knife (which is what it was designed for, anyway). If I had a flintlock pistol, I could be almost entirely of the period and horrible enough to do honor to Micajah and his only slightly less evil brother, Wiley.
Having always considered the whole concept ridiculous, I've only done a costume once: a Civil War re-enactment that I let myself get talked in to (I was an irregular Confederate bank robber). I've changed my mind; this just might turn out to be a hell of a lot of fun!
Historical footnote: I've forgotten which -- I'll look it up, if asked -- but one of the Lewis and Clarke exploration partnership was murdered on the Natchez Trace, although not by the Harpes.

Haha, good idea There's nothing stopping us from doing so, but it's not a nation-wide thing. More often than not it's just another day to stay at home and molt, or travel, or go out and have fun |
