I am so ticked off. I heard a report on the NATIONAL news on the radio today. Not the local yahoos but the national reporters. They were reporting on Dover PA, and said that there should be a ruling soon the "ID versus evolution controversy".
They reported that the "school wants to teach the theory of ID, along with the theory of Evolution". I started yelling at the radio that ID isn't a theory. What really made me blow a gasket was they then reported that "Evolution is the theory that the big bang happened by chance"!?! On the National News!

What the fuck???

How the hell are we going to keep science in the science class if the people reporting the news to us are completely clueless.

As I was pounding on the steering wheel, foaming at the mouth and screaming at the radio, my daughter calmly looked at me and said instead of yelling at the radio why don't you do something about it.

Well does anyone have any ideas how to educate the nation or a piece of it. I thought maybe I just need to yell louder at the radio, but she might have a point.

If I knew then what I know now then I would know more now than I know.

Well furshur, if it'd help you feel any better, I'd buy you one of these...

Actually Randy that's not a bad idea. Sorta advertise my position and see if I can stimulate a little discourse.

Plus the t-shirts are funny as hell.

God bless Landowver Baptist.

Call the station and bitch. It may not seem like a lot, but make it known to whoever produces that show that their science reporter isn't up to the job. Suggest several resources, such as the National Academy of Sciences, that the reporter can use in the future to correct their reporting.

Now, chances are, they will also get a handful of calls saying they screwed up from the ID camp as well. "Evolution isn't even science, it's a faith," etc. All you can do is steer them toward the majority scientific opinion.

Well I don't see what the ID'ers/creationists are so worried about? Apparently, the scientific literacy is so poor that I'm close to suspect that evolution (or modern cosmology, or any science) isn't taught in many schools at all. Lots of people are even confused about which is more accurate: geocentrism or heliocentrism. In the 21st century. In a country that put men on the Moon. A country that does not seem to lack schools, or museums, or libraries. Or, sadly, religion.

To be fair, I must say that we have religious fundamentalists too, and we even have creationists. Not many, but there are a few. I'm trying my best to not lose patience when I encounter them online, I try to educate them. But it's possible that these people are victims of horribly bad science education in their schools. It's not a good way to build a bright future. Indeed I think that we should, as soon as possible, work towards higher standards in schools, because that will be the most important vaccine against pseudoscience and other rubbish.
