There is a signficant zed population to the north, but I believe these are just leftovers from the attack on Nichols Mall. However, the hospital just to the east of the mall seems like it's about to be overrun.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Night 2 report:

Dropped 3 more zeds (one was very weak, one was a full 60-pointer with a flak jacket).

Down to four 6-shot pistols and two 5-shot pistols (34 shots left). I now have 341 XP.

(After I finish this, I think I'm going to park myself in a gun store until I've got nothing but fully-loaded shotguns on me, and then see how many points I can acquire.)

3rd night: killed one more jacketed zed, got a second down to six HP before running out of AP and ammo (at the same time, nicely). Ended this little experiment with 443 XP.

What did I say before?
quote:
Were I to hit with every shot, that'd be 635 XP, but at a 65% hit rate, one would expect only 413 XP. I've got 35 XP right now... If, after that last bullet, I've got 448 XP plus 10 for however many zeds I finish off (I'll keep count), it will meet expectations.
I definitely did not meet expectations. I killed six zombies, meaning I gained a net of 348 XP just for shooting, when I expected 413.

However, since both zeds tonight had jackets on, and I'd killed two previously with them (one a 60-HP zed), that means I got 204 XP for those four when I would have picked up closer to 255 had they not had those jackets. Adding the 51-point difference in means I only failed to meet expectations by 14 XP, which is close enough that I'd say the 65% rate is validated.

But, as I said, I'll be doing another fun little test in a while. During that killing spree, I will specifically count my hits and misses, and everything else I can think of, and we'll see how that goes down.

I'm off to pick up my last two human skills and reload...

It's not far from Nichols Mall so it sounds probable.
Looks like the attack on wodroffe has begun.

I'm in the north-west corner(?) of Pennyville struggling to get enough XP to rise above low-level. Being a Medic seemed like a good way to start, but now I'm almost stuck. At least it feels like it. Hacking around with a fire-axe in close proximity to a hospital and med-kits doesn't turn up in the searches as often as I'd like. Only those pesky newspapers that do jack shit. Even the books one find can increase XP if you read enough of them.

Another pet peeve is that I seem to find more GPS-units and DNA-scanners respectively, than revive-syringes in the Necrotech buildings the few times it isn't barricaded to extremely heavy.
In those cases I use my secondary character to hack away the barricades and my primary character to heal any near-by zombies as payback.

Ricky, I've always seen the headshot line before the last attack. It's just the order in which they check.

I've heard rumors of a Tompson Mall siege, but there is nothing about it on the wiki. I recall that someone had a character in that mall. Anyone know if it is true?

Woodroffe Mall has fallen.
The Z group "Mall Tour 06" is heading for Pole Mall(W Grayside).

Zombies everywhere. I'm hiding in a pub in Stanbury Village. Alone.
I have barricaded up to HB so it will take them about 50 AP get in.
2 rounds left....

I feel like Hudson in Aliens.

A small(ish) group of zombies is running amok in Joachim Mall, too. It's messing with my ability to search for shotguns.

Tonight I attacked a Zed 30 times with Axe, 40%, and didn't hit a single friggin' time!
The probability of that happening is so low that I seriously suspect foul play. With that luck, I should have won a million on the lottery a long time ago.
Somehow, right now the appeal of playing Urban Dead has diminished.

You seem to be falling victim to the clustering illusion, Mab.

Sure, the odds against missing 30 times in a row with a 40% chance to hit are 4,523,374 to 1, but how many AP have been spent in the game since last July?

Heck, there were 30,728 active players in the last day. At 48 AP per player, that's 1,474,944 AP spent per day. Halve that (maybe) for the number of AP spent in combat, and I expect if you had complete knowledge of all the players, you'd find that 30 misses in a row might happen once a month or more.

What's the longest streak of hits you've had?

Still, seems like pretty long odds. I mean sure it might happen on average once a month in the game as a whole but if it were to happen to Mab again next month I'd be very suspicious. On average a specific individual character could expect such a streak approximately once every 2,500 years. I guess Mab's streak showed up a tad early.

Hmmm... how many characters are you playing Mab? Obviously the more characters you play the greater the chances that you'd be hit with such an unlucky streak.

You are both right of course.

But when you're smack in the middle of the loosing streak, logical analysis of the situation isn't the first option one falls back on when tempers take over. Given that I'm playing two characters, the risk is twice as high.

So, now that I've had time to ponder my unluck (after all, it was FRIDAY 13th...) This won't happen again in a million years, at least not to me.

Gambler's fallacy.

In other news, there are now +800 survivors gathered in Craiger Mall.
