A professor at American University's Washington College of Law has written a pretty good summary of why ID Creationism should not be taught as science.

She gives a good overview of the history of creationist attempts to spread the gospel via public schools, and the legal cases that define the law today. There's also a summary of why ID creationism is not science, but religion.
Good reading for anyone, especially those who aren't sure what the fuss is about.
