I saw King Kong this weekend...

I must say that I think Jack Black has made one of his best performances ever. The rest of the supporting act is credible too.
CGI is impressive. Much better than I've seen elsewhere, and even the physics enging of the CGI is great. No more lame stuff like Sam Raimi's Spiderman (that made me cringe).

This isn't just a FX/CGI-fest, it has drama too. But the King Kong vs T-Rex fight is awesome.

Yea, I see the reviews are great, I figured it must be damn good. I saw Jack Black in one or two others... the movies were "OK", but the guy's definitely talented. I thought "School of Rock" was so-so, but Black's acting was funny as hell. I gotta' check it out.

After the 20's original, the first remake they hyped alot (maybe 1978) was a major dud... that big ape robot they created was really expensive, too. They still have that thing as part of the Universal Studios tour. They were even pushing Gulf&Western stock before the movie came out (Gulf&Western owned Universal Studios back then) because they were so sure the movie was going to kick ass... it tanked big time, and so did Gulf&Western stock (but in reality, they did so independantly... Universal was just a little piece of the conglomorate... it was just a typical stock broker's sucker tactic to convince people to "buy" by exploiting the pre-release publicity for the movie.)

So it was a successful remake?

Maybe for the stock brokers who managed to dupe people into buying Gulf&Western with that line of bull (they collected their trading fees so they did OK, then the buyers steadily lost their skins over the next year as Gulf&Western just kept nose diving) but for everyone else... movie goers, studio... it was a total bomb.

But this new one sounds like it rocks totally as Mab said.

The price of the ticket was unusually high, 13Euro or $15USD but I will seriously consider going back to the theater for a second time.

I really liked it. Some of the scene-setups are typical 50s movie style, which reinforce the feeling of a modern 1950- King Kong movie.

You know, I enjoyed it but.....It's definitely "over-hyped" in my opinion. The whole stampeding dinosaurs was just way WAY over the top; and did not even look real to me. Kong looked great and his interaction with the woman was much more believable this time around. Worth seeing? Yes. One of the best movies ever made? uh, no.

I would rather face a cold reality than delude myself with comforting fantasies.
