My favorite is "A Christmas Story". Why?
1) Told from a kid's POV
b) No religion injected
3) About a kid's desire to get a certain gift, which is what xmas is all about
d) Funny as all get out
5) FUDGE!

"The Muppets Christmas Carol"
Just for the interplay between Gonzo and Rizzo.

The Shop Around the Corner from 1940, with Jimmy Stewart, Margaret Sullavan, and Frank Morgan, is a fun old movie set at Christmas time. It was the movie that set the framework for the more contemporary You've Got Mail, from 1998 with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
You may recall in that recent rendition, which also has some Christmas scenes, Kathleen's bookstore is called "The Shop Around the Corner". This is an obvious reference to the original 1940 film. Although I think You've Got Mail is a cute movie and well done, I have a great appreciation for the presentation style of the older films.
I do like the animated Grinch, and The Christmas Story is a hoot. The Shop Around the Corner gets my vote as one of the greats for some of the same reasons pleco mentioned. Christmas time is the setting for much of the movie, but there's no reference to religion, and it's got some very funny stuff in it.

“Gremlins” is one of my all time favorites. Partly because Santa is killed off in a story told by the female protagonist… |
