So here is a thing. Thanks to Michelle, her parents and our cat (well, that was what the card said) I am going to TAM. Michelle and I have a full day pass for all of the Saturday activities. More than that we can't really do because of work schedules and the expense. We will be flying into Vegas on the Friday of the event and staying at the Stardust at a reduced rate (part of the gift) that goes to anyone attending. Joe, Michelle's step dad who owns Justice Aviation will be flying us.
So there it is. TAM, here we come…

Sweet!
Take notes, pictures, and stuff.... because you know we will be expecting a new Kil Report!
Wish I could go.... possibly the next one.

Oh, yes, wish I could join you there. There'll be some good magicians in the neighborhood. Besides some of the better known skeptic magicians like Penn & Teller, you might get to meet some others who are expected to attend the Meeting. Some notables on the guest roster are a great close-up magician, Jamy Ian Swiss, and a very popular comic magician, Mac King. Vegas is crawling with them. Enjoy!

Someday......
I have no doubt that you'll have a great time and we homebodies will expect a full and detailed report.
Enjoy!

Yeah, I will definitely take a camera.

Unfortunately, on the magician front, the Jamy Ian Swiss shows for TAM are sold out. Mac King is on a different day. I will be seeing Richard Wiseman's presentation:
quote: “MIND MAGIC” Professor Wiseman presents his latest research into magic, psychology, and belief. A unique opportunity to discover the hidden science used by magicians to perform the impossible, witness jaw dropping optical illusions, participate in the world's largest scientific experiment, and find out how to sell science to an increasingly disillusioned public.

I will miss Penn and Teller who do their TAM thing on Friday, but I have every intention of seeing their regular show at the RIO Saturday night. I have been told that after each show they hang out with the audience and will talk to whoever wants to talk to them. They will pose for pictures too.
Oh, and Teller will be part of a panel discussion, along with Julia Sweeney, Daniel Dennett, Randi, Hal Bidlack, Paul Provenza, Michael Shermer, Ellen Johnson and Karen Russell on “Can a skeptic believe in God?” That should be good. I have my opinion about that since I have a very good friend who is a skeptic and an Evangelical Christian. (We just accuse each other of having a blind spot in that one area.) He has come to more than one New Age Expo with me…
I will definitely write about my weekend. Naturally, at this time I have no idea what my observations or comments will be. My hopes are that they will be mostly positive…
Michelle has suggested that I make up some kind of SFN card to hand out…
One other thing. If any of our guests or any members who plan to go are reading this, please do get in touch with me. TAM would be a great place to meet up…

Totally awesome... sounds like you have some very cool in-laws. I checked out the program on the randi website- I'm highly envious. Besides, Vegas is a very evil city, but it's fun evil out there. Hit a buffet at a major casino while you're out there- they're cheap, and the food is incredible. |

They've got good everything, man. The idea's to get you to visit often enough/ hang around long enough to gamble away your life savings, of course, and they do a pretty good job of it. If I lived in Vegas, I'd be too fat to walk from stuffing myself at those places. |

Okay, here's the deal. On the page the above links to is a live cam. What I want you all to do is look for the guy with the SFN sweatshirt and a Skepticality button. That person is probably me. I will wave to the cam if I see it. This rare opportunity to see me at TAM via the live cam is only good on Saturday, the 28th of January.
Do you have anything better to do?

That's really great. I wanna go.
The camera shot isn't too inviting but then it is late at night right now. Any chance you could pick a time to be there? Or how about if anyone does see it they try to catch a screen shot?
I think the idea of cards is great.
It's impressive that skeptics are so popular, $1,000/plate dinners sold out and all. |

Considering that what I see now is the same shot they had on last night, I am not sure the live cam is all that live. Perhaps it's a glitch, but I don't have much time today to figure that out.
Oh well… Maybe I will ask about it when I get there today.
And you know what? I wouldn't pay a thousand dollars to have dinner with Randi. Well, maybe I would if I was stinking rich. My reasons for wanting to be there have nothing to do with fund raising for the JREF.
What I am interested in is meeting skeptics from all parts of the world and in any way I can, representing SFN and its contribution to the skeptical movement.
