Anyone played a computer game called Darwinia? It is sold by the makers of Half-Life. Here is a blurb:

quote:
The world of Darwinia is a virtual theme park, running inside a computer network built by a computer genius named Dr Sepulveda. Darwinia is populated by sentient, evolving life forms called the Darwinians. They are the product of a decade's worth of research into genetic algorithms.

Unfortunately, the systems of Darwinia have been overrun by an evil red Viral Infection. This Virus has multiplied out of control and must be stopped. Your task is to destroy the Viral Infection and save the Darwinians from extinction.

Here is a video of the game: http://storefront.steampowered.com/video/darwinia-steam.wmv

Here is the web site:

I just found it this morning and I haven't downloaded the demo or anything else yet.

I know you can play the demo through Steam although I'm not sure if that's the only way you can play it.

It's a lot like the Command and Conquer games, or Age of Empires. But I wasn't able to play it that much, on my laptop I only get 4-6 frames per second, making playing it very hard.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.
