Even though this is a political issue - an act proposed by Dems in Congress (read about it here: http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/viewArticle.asp?articleID=4954) I'm tend to think this act is also a partisan attempt to manipulate the public. I think this for a couple reasons.

1.) The latest on factcheck.org, which condemns an ad that favors the act, as dishonest: http://www.factcheck.org/article372.html

2.) Reform proposals by both Dems and Republicans have been consistently criticized by nonpartisan watchdog groups that say those reforms are not enough because they don't create adaquate transparancy and aren't likely to be well enforced. OMB (White House Office of Mangement and Budget) Watch outlines this argument quite well here: http://www.ombwatch.org/article/articleview/3259/1/1?TopicID=1

It is so frustrating to me that most American people have grown so apathetic toward government that they take little to no interest what-so-ever in trying to reduce the amount of corruption. Most Americans seem to think that either the US government isn't as corrupt as it is, or that the level of corruption cannot be reduced.

Serious, what the hell's wrong with Americans? We're educated. We're not any stupider than other people on average. So why do we ignore this shit? Are we just so drugged-up on entertainment, so used to being passive, that we can no longer involve ourselves with the drudgeries of reality?

Statistics say otherwise.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.
