Can anyone tell me if the Keith Hensen versus Scientology case in Riverside California is true? Been following it a little on the 'net, but I don't know if it's a hose job. Lisa

If you mean Keith Henson, then there is quite a bit of information regarding his legal battles with the Church of Scientology.
Check out http://www.holysmoke.org/kh/kh.htm

Thanks, I went to Slashdot, Clambake and a few others, but I'm new enough to this that I'm not a very good surfer yet.
So, from what I can gather, the Canadian government thinks the Scientologists are a bunch of crankcases, and don't want to hand poor Keith back. On the other hand, why piss off the US State Department. I doubt the US State Department has a problem with Canada's view of CO$. But on the other hand, they won't want to look like they're letting themselves get pissed on by the Crown. The score so far: DA, Judge, and "church" still in Riverside, fuming Keith kicked back in Canada, no doubt with a nice cold Mooshead Both governments trying to find something else to do Me, waiting for the TV movie. I feel bad for the guy, but this is more fun than a year's subscription to Weekly World News!

Yes the case is real.
Keeping up on the goings on with Scientology has been a hobby of mine for 4 or 5 years now. It's all around entertainment, their beliefs and antics are Comedy. The fight against them like Keith's case is Drama. And some stories from the inside are absolute Horror.
Here is another site with the latest on Keith Henson: http://www.operatingthetan.com/
Co$ has been convicted in Canada, with the largest damages awarded in a libel case in their history. The US seems to be heavily under their influence tho, all the way up to Clinton putting preassure on Germany on their behalf.

It has always been a hobby of mine to learn what other people believe. It fascinates me. There was a Scientology office (maybe it was a church, but it sure seemed office-like) along a route I used to walk when I lived in Florida, so on a whim I decided to stop by. I bought a book, "Scientology: A New Slant On Life," and told the people there I was interested in their beliefs. They proceded to give me a test that was quite similar to those Jungian Personality Tests floating around the internet and office teamwork seminars, then showed me an instructional video. This video was one of the most interesting things I have ever witnessed: it an amazing insight into cult mentality. The people all refered to their founder as "Ron," and spoke of him as if he were still alive. The primary theme of the video was the fact that the US government awarded them Church Status. This was stated so often during this video that I began to believe they still have an insecurity complex about their beliefs. (I suppose, then, I should not call it a "cult," eh?) The other main themes of the video was the layers of secrecy in their church structure, as well as the personal empowerment of their followers. When I had finished watching the film, one of the people in the office went over the computer's analysis of my test. He proceded to tell me that I was a very different person that who I believed I was. This naturally came as quite a shock, since I have always been pretty good at self-analysis. When I kindly informed this gentleman that his computer must have made a mistake, he told me I was lying to myself. After several minutes of fruitless debate, I graciously stood up and left, never to return. This is how many cults recruit new members. They promise power to those who join, hint at forbidden knowledge, and then try to tell you that your current views are wrong.

It is a national disgrace that Henson has been forced to flee the country and seek refuge in Canada. The Henson terrorism case (nuclear missile indeed!) is only the latest in a series of outrages that date back to the court-ordered sale of the Cult Awareness Network's confidential files to Co$ in a bankruptcy auction. This was an egregious abuse of judicial discretion that should have led to impeachment. CO$ owns a significant part of the judicial system in California, including Judge Walerstein, who allowed this ludicrous Inquisition to go forward, and Riverside DA Robert Schwarz, who prosecuted it. We can expect no relief from the Washington Bush League. Dubya's supporters in the religious reich have little in common with Co$ but their mutual desire to overthrow the Contstitution is enough to put them on the same side in the Henson case.

Becoming a "church" (being a religious denomination) permitted Scientology to avoid taxes in this country. They most likely want to make certain that everybody is aware of this so that they do not become visited by the IRS.
