As much as I hate the violent reactions, I think it must eventually wear itself out, and I also think this sort of insulting shit is necessary for the educated Muslims that run the governments and businesses in middle eastern countries to fully grasp what being part of the modern world means. Unless middle eastern countries want to be total isolationists, the leaders are going to have to encourage tolerance and a greater understanding of the Western values of individual liberty.

Plus this shit is funny. Yay freedom of speech!

Interesting site. I do not have much knowledge of the Quran or Hadith. The stories on this website remind me of biblical stories in their sheer lunacy.

Thanks or the link, Mab! The cartoon strip was fascinating, and very funny, too, aside from the very sick things it reveals about Muhammed, such as his obvious insanity and pedophilia. To me, the stories are even weirder than the Bible, but that is at least partially because I'm more accustomed to the Bible's fables.

This response (to a letter of hate mail) from the site's creator makes me wonder if he might even be some kind of liberal Muslim:
quote:
You still haven't demonstrated my narrow mindedness, and you certainly haven't demonstrated my lack of knowledge. The fact is, I know more of Islam than the people who are being offended by this site. I know that Mohammed would have had nothing against the caricatures that are on this page, and that were printed in newspapers all over the world. I know that Mohammed demanded no images of him be made because it would cause the people to worship him as an equal to your Allah. He knew the people would do with him what the christians did with Jesus. That was his point when he said not to make images of him. Of course, the muslims have gone and deified Mohammed anyway, they've just not depicted his image. The muslims who get offended by this site have lost their faith in the teachings of Mohammed. Tell me that I am wrong.
Even if the site's creator is not a Muslim, he's clearly someone who has spent a good deal of time studying the Islamic faith and developing his own opinions about it. Makes me fanticize about the someday Muslim equivalent to Reform Judaism and the United Church of Christ.

Neat site, Doc.

It might be a bit of fun to keep an eye on the Fan/Hate/Death-Threat Mailbags to see what species of loons it attracts.

So far only hate mail. No fan or death mail. I wonder, but doubt if the site will get any major attention. But I am curious how you found it Dr M?

Interesting to note that a couple of the hate missives on the site were fully as semi-literate as as any Chriatian objection to NAiG. It makes you wonder: does religion retard the learnig process?

I liked the artwork on the site and his stories were pretty good, and the topic is a hot one that won't go away soon (dammit!). As it gets further refined, and it's address gets kicked around the net for a while, it might get quite a bit of attention. After all, how many hits have we given it, on just this pleasant Thursday morning?

Hi, I'm from InsultMohammed.com and I was emailed by one of your members who happened to mention this group. I like what I see here, so I was hoping I could get some help from the group. I have an FAQ section to fill up with Q&A, and nobody has asked me any questions yet. Anyone feel up to it?

For those wondering about the site's design(horrid) and the lack of material to look at, well, this is the process my websites go through. This is the first design, and I usually go through about 5 iterations before picking a final design. Expect to see many changes. The lack of material comes from my lack of time. I work full time and go to college full time, and I do all kinds of side projects, such as this one, so my time is stretched pretty thin. A game is coming soon, which I'm pretty excited about, and I may start an animated series as well. So, if you are concerned about how the site looks, don't be, it should be a grade A site within the next month or so, with lots of content to soak up. I haven't even made the site search engine friendly yet, nor have I submitted the url to any of the search engines. Only googlebot seems to have picked us up, which is of no surprise.

So, see everyone around. I hope to get to know the regulars here shortly.

Greetings Insult and welcome to SFN!

I've bookmarked your site and will follow it with interest. I think it has excellent potential, especially as you are actually giving examples of the Koran -- a book that few other than Muslims, and including myself, are familiar with. I see an educational potential mixed with the satire.

If you find the time to browse the archives of this madhouse, I'm sure you will find useful material. At one time or another, we've taken apart at least some of 'most everything.

As it stands, I really don't know enough about Islam to ask a good question, so it's best that I just ride along until I learn a bit more.

Indeed, welcome, Insult!

It's refreshing to see someone who is mocking a religion using real knowledge, while not unfairly abusing its worshippers. In my opinion, every religion needs someone like yourself to point out it absurditites. A religion without aburdities would not be a religion.

I have some questions:

What are the main Islamic texts, and who wrote them?

I won't ask you many personal questions, because that might be dangerous, but are you from a Muslim background?

Do you know if the cartoonist, now in hiding, who drew the wonderful strip is from a Muslim background?

Are you concerned for your life?

Should I post this to your site, instead?

Don't wory about your site being incomplete. It'll grow, and you will learn. People are accustomed to this growth process. It's looking very good already for a new site.

Thanks for the welcomes. Filthy, yes, I do hope to make the site as educational as possible, while maintaining its humorous side, and I do plan to read around this site to see what else I can find. I'm an all out skeptic, so this site is for me.

HalfMooner, to answer your questions (which will be part of the FAQ now, thank you:)
---
"What are the main Islamic texts, and who wrote them?"
The main Islamic texts are the Quran (Koran) and the Hadith, although there are others such as the Sudi texts. The Quran and Hadith are the most common. Who wrote them? Well, this is probably my favorite question. Muslim religious leaders like to say that Mohammed wrote them. However, Mohammed was as illiterate as a rock, he couldn't write. The religious leaders' response to this rebuttal is that it was a miracle of god that an illiterate man could write. Funny thing is, Mohammed himself was against the concept of Miracles (he really didn't want to turn into the christians jesus.) So, basically, Muslim religious leaders are calling Mohammed a liar. Priceless. Fact is, we don't know who wrote them. Likely, they were written the same way as the bible. Piece by piece, and then put together later by some elder council.

"I won't ask you many personal questions, because that might be dangerous, but are you from a Muslim background?"
I really wish I could get to know the fans on a more personal level, but, as you said, that isn't too safe. As far as whether or not I'm Muslim, I won't say. It's more fun this way. Speculation encouraged.

"Do you know if the cartoonist, now in hiding, who drew the wonderful strip is from a Muslim background?"
No, I don't know, and I wish I could get in contact with him/her. I hope he/she is safe from harm though, and I wouldn't want to put them in harms way, so, let's just wish them well.

"Are you concerned for your life?"
Not really. I mean, yeah, the idea of death isn't pleasant, but I think I've taken the necessary precautions to prevent anything bad from happening. I was in the military, so the possible loss of life isn't new to me. I'm also a capitalist pig. Even though my primary reason for starting the site was as a protest, MONEY is a close second.
---
I'll post your questions on the site, and I'll likely rewrite my answers a bit, when I have the time. Thanks for the interest; it's good to know I'm not wasting my time.

Thank you, Insult, for taking the time to reply to my questions, including the one you decided, for good reason, not to answer. Good luck with your new venture, and stay safe!

Welcome to Skeptic Friends Network, InsultMohammed.

I hope you stay to contribute here.
Mocking and ridiculing of religion isn't our purpose (even if we occationally do), but critical analysis. However, that doesn't mean it can't be done with humour.
I believe that your site, if managed properly, can be an important first step in forcing a reneissance upon Islam.
