A Gallup report released today reveals that more than half of all Americans, rejecting evolution theory and scientific evidence, agree with the statement, "God created man exactly how Bible describes it."

And most revealing:
quote:
Newport wraps it up: "Several characteristics correlate with belief in the biblical explanation for the origin of humans. Those with lower levels of education, those who attend church regularly, those who are 65 and older, and those who identify with the Republican Party are more likely to believe that God created humans 'as is,' than are those who do not share these characteristics."
So it's a belief shared by the uneducated, the religious, the aged, and Republicans. Luckily I'm not any of those.

I see these polls and I wonder: what were the percentages 50 or 70 years ago? It might be that we're making progress.

Got to remember too, that in their stupid little delusional minds, that answering with Evolution, they may feel threatened with burning in hell.
Or, it's just a lot of lazy thinkers.

That shitheel Bush....he gave credence to creationism to be taught in schools a few months ago, then just weeks later comments in a speech that students need to dig in with their math and science studies, for a stronger America.
Fucking incredible.

Maybe compared to 70 years ago. Compared to 50 years ago, I doubt it. I think the higher birth rate of the Fundies will overwhelm us since they have so few opportunites these days to remove themselves from the gene pool before they breed.

What really frightens me is the prospect of the world's biggest nuclear arsenal falling under the control of a bunch of anti-scientific fanatics who believe the world is about to end or believe that anything they do is justified because god is on their side. This frightens me a lot more than the prospect of the Islamic fundamentalists in Iran building a few low yeild nukes.

The bright side to that is that they may not understand how to operate or maintain them.

All they have to do is get a few to launch. There is a long gap between intellectual degradation and thechnological degredation.

It's not very likely they will lauch nukes at USA. At least not until after they have tested and verified the construction of the warheads and delivery system at their back-yard test range also known as Israel.
