On some county government message board the subject of creationism got started. A guy asked for help so I threw in my help. Right now it looks like it is just me against two creationist, so if anyone else would like to help you are more than welcome.

The 20 Questions thread is where the action is.

The Pupil seems to be hung up on irreducable complexity, resorting to specific biochemical interactions. IDA is the other creationist.

I found the whole thing interesting, if futil. I was working out an argument involving cave fishes, salamanders, crickets, and so forth that have lost most or all of their vision. But, the topic sort of drifted off, and it's a little past an old man's bedtime, anyway. Ah well.

But thanks for a good read.

It's late for me too but maybe I can read some of the posts later. Although I have enough to do trying to research a paper for my own class. Was thinking of writing it on Darwin but am going to do Nietzsche instead.
I finally clicked enough of those links on that site to find out you are(or that .gov)in Ohio, sheesh, isn't that near Missouri. No wonder you are having a problem.

To win, you must ignor evolution completely and move the subject to creationism.

You must point out that evolution is not the issue - both evolutionists and creationists want evolution to be taught. Creationists want to add creationism to the public school curriculum.

So, any attacks on evolution is not part of the real picture.

Point this out to them and ask why creationism should be added.

Another attempt by them is to claim evolution is a religion. Just point out that Christian fundamentalists have already tried to get rid of evolution in court and failed and in court precedence (reference to previous court cases) reigns. So you tell them that trying it again will do them no good.

Don't waste time chatting about evolution. Hit them where it hurts.

I think it might be interesting to suggest teaching evolution in church if they are so open to alternative ideas and feel that alternatives should all be taught side by side. They should also be open to discussions on the virtues of satanism and the angry storm god. All just as good theory-wise.

They are not open to alternatives. They just have no choice but to beg for "equal time". They're lawyers know that can't get rid of evolution. They already tried this.

So the issue is not evolution at all. It's whether they can add creationism to the public school curriculum.

Now, on the internet and on TV and radio programs, they will try to attack evolution. This impresses the idiots listening in.

The thing is to turn it into a debate about creationism. Their rehearsed anti-evolution scripts no longer become useful to them.
