I'm also not sure we've established the fact that just because someone believes something that you don't, that makes them "easily deceived or naive." I don't know how difficult it is to deceive them.

Well, if you call a "semantic argument" excusing someone who says blue when they mean applesauce, I guess it is a "semantic argument."

If you think the meaning of words is unimportant, or as we might say here, cheeseburger, then what is it you think you're arguing with?
If you think that what you called "off the cuff comments" need to be precise with regard to the meaning of the words in them, then I think your first comments were, indeed, too strongly critical despite your stated intentions otherwise. I mean, if you're going to acknowledge that a comment was informal, then why demand that only the formal meaning of the words in the comment be used? It seems to be rather inconsistent.

The point is I wonder if this sometimes seems like a place where people who have an interest in certain subjects, even a high ability to retain and convey information in those subjects, think that they're more intelligent than others, and can come here to laugh at those others.

Again, it's not a statement, it's just something that I wonder about.
Well, you are the one who formally brought up intelligence in regard to Relfe's alien implants, despite the earlier word choice of "stupid," so what do you think? I happen to think that Relfe probably has above-average intelligence, like many of the people who think as she does. But as you know, that's never prevented anyone from doing stupid acts, or believing stupid things.

Now if it's true, some of those people who know some things about certain subjects may happen to be less than brilliant about some subjects, so they may wish to rethink their position, that is, if they're not too "stupid" to do so.

If it's not true, then I'm just worrying about nothing.
Well, I don't think it's true, but you've implied that it's impossible for a person to be able to discern the truth of such a statement about him/herself, so by that standard, I'm simply incapable of a proper judgement on the matter.

If such a "fact" is ever established, it would scare me very much, because the real fact of the matter is that nobody is calling Relfe gullible "just because" she believes something we (or I) don't. It's because she believes things which are demonstrably untrue, and she uses logic which is obviously fallacious.
