This thread originally began 02-16-2001
This is WAR. Fox's pseudo-documentary, "Conspiracy Theory: Did we Land on the Moon?" turned out to be even worse than we had expected. It presented all the old, and multiply debunked, Hoax arguments, and some breathtakingly stupid and credulous new ones. "Why couldn't you hear the engines?" (in the lunar take-off video) was one of their objections, so help me. This is a new and sinister level of idiocy, there is simply no precedent for it. It is an all-time low in media ethics, not just the worst ever, but an entirely new magnitude of dishonesy and willful distortion. There was no counterevidence, no disagreement, and no questions about the conspiracists' claims and evaluations. It was an unfettered freak show for Bill Kaysing and the other conspira-liars. It may not be any coincidence that actor/comedian Richard Belzer, a near legendary insider icon in showbiz, is a major supporter of Kaysing and the rest of this scum. I have prepared letters to all the major aerospace companies who were involved in Project Apollo, suggesting some measures they might want to take. In brief these are: Pull all ads from Fox and other members of the Murdoch empire. Sue for libel (corporate involvement in a criminal conspiracy is necessarily implied by the theory.) Fire any employee who expresses belief in these tales. (Not a First Amendment issue, there is no right to slander one's employer.) They don't want crazy drunks in the aerospace industry anyway, this is a handy way to weed them out. Congress should pass a joint resolution re-affirming the value of Project Apollo, thanking the participants, and publicly censuring Fox and Murdoch. Any member who fails to vote for it should be voted out of office at the earliest opportunity. An organized boycott of Fox advertisers should begin as soon as we can make a list. Writing to Fox is a waste of time, they are filth, beyond the pale of humanity. At this point, I don't want to persuade them, I want to destroy them

Because the birds outside were chirping so loud! I was laughing at this one.
I was offended when they got to the part about the Apollo 1 astronauts being killed to silence them. I dunno why exactly but struck me as being offensive.
How about that artist conception of a landing being used as evidence that there should have been a crater? The guy was an artist asked to paint what it might loook like. it's not exactly something anyone had seen let alone done before. What a crock.

What a bunch of absolute assholes! I conducted a little poll on a message board frequented by veterans. The question was: "What should be done with moon landing denialists?" There was a choice of 5 answers, all dripping with my usual bias and menacing sarcasm:
1. Skinned alive and their livers served up at a NASA retiree's banquet. (with fava beans and a good Chianti, of course. We aren't barbarians.) 10 / 28.6%
2. Fired from any employment they have, rounded up and herded into mandatory alcohol rehab. 1 / 2.9%
3. Sued for every dime they have, for libeling about half a million devoted patriots, and even Richard Nixon. 4 / 11.4%
4. Deported to Somalia or East Timor, by rocket if possible. 3 / 8.6%
5. Ignored as the cretinous losers they are. 17/49.6%

I say we send them all to the moon, then see if they can scream in space. And sue whoever made that program for slander (it was spoken wasn't it?)
Although when you mentioned the one about no noise from the rocket I really did rotfl.

Next to bigfoot. And the great Floridian Skunk Ape. Of course, when they did get to the moon, they might try to convince us that its FLAT...
I am so glad I don't watch t.v.

They don't need any space suits on the moon, anyway it may be interesting to see how long they live without them, gasping for air, trying to scream only to find no air for either to work, that might be good to watch, then they wont doubt that we can go there.

Fox network's e-mail address: askfox@foxinc.com Let 'em know how you feel. Did anyone happen to tape the show? I would like to get a list of advertisers and take them to task for sponsoring this filth. Finally, the show was actually produced by Nash Entertainment of Hollywood. Their spokes-fool, one Craig Tipler, declared in response to criticism, "Hey don't hate us, we're just entertainers." I am still trying to find an e-mail address for Nash and Tipler, to correct his unfortunate misperception of his own profession. Digiweb sux, too, I've been trying to post this off and on for 12 hours. Are they part of the Fox/Murdoch redlight district, too?

Yeah Digiweb was definately having some trouble. Fortunately not the part of the account that holds the site itself. I am hoping to move SFN to a better server soon and upgrade this message board as well. Digi has let us down far too often.

Ugh, that last part about kids talking about the show bugged me. At least some teachers are out looking for answers. I shudder to think what could happen if a teacher had no answers. But asking questions is fine as long as the answers are the truth.

Actually I did tape the show because I wanted to pick apart afterward. I suppose I could watch it again and put together a list of advertisers. Anyone interested?

Terrific! I lifted these partial lists from the Bad Astronomy Message board, but we badly need some additional confirmation. If you're willing to got through the tape and check, it would help a lot: Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy Karl writes: > Here is a partial list:
> Dr. Pepper > Clairol > 10-10-220 > Hamilton College > Best Buy > Imodium > Orajel > Ford > Eli Lilly > Carnival Cruise Lines > Gateway
//\\//\\//\\
Gregory:
In my region, the national advertisers were:
USA Films - Promo for "Traffic" Lilly Drugs - for "Web-MD" Carnival Cruses Dodge Gateway Estroven Aveeno Toyata - for 4-Runner truck Dr. Pepper VISA Clarol - for "Herbal Essence" Shampoo 10-10-220 - Telecom USA Best Buy Imodium Orajel Honda Men's Warehouse
Gregory ))--::
It should be fairly simple to hunt these up on the web, much harder to get to their PR and advertising departments. It would be easier to come up with a standard letter, then modify it as needed for each company. Be sure to express your respect for the company, but make no bones about how unacceptable it is to have them supporting such a despicable program. I would also recommend concentrating on national rather than local advertisers. There are indications that at least some of the local affiliates are in open revolt against the network over this program. If your Fox outlet has local news (some don't) contact them and ask about a rebuttal. My letter to our local affiliate is posted under media issues. Thanks again, Piltdown
