A 0% on the tomatometer so far with 7 reviews, 3.8/10 average.
No wonder they waited to screen it for anyone, adds to the hype and then they pray we dont read the reviews before friday.

I'm bummed because I want to go see the movie in defiance of the Catholic church's advising members to boycott it but my son has already read the reviews and doesn't want to go. |

Reads not unlike the Rotten Tomatoes reviews of the X Files movie. |
Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

Same here. We're going even if it does suck.

I reminded my kids they eat better at the movie theater than they do at home. Sadly, it's true.

I know how everyone here is so fond of anecdotal and second hand evidence, so I'll throw mine in.
My boss saw it last night. He enjoyed it, his comments were (my paraphrasing here):
"It was reasonably true to the book. If you liked the book, you should like the movie. If you're expecting lots of explosions and action, you'll be disappointed. The book wasn't like that, and neither is the movie."
I'll probably end up seeing it. Though these days, at the freequency with which visit the cinema, it may well be in 2014 , at home on on DVD and "The DaVinci Code XVII:" is showing in theatres. |

Oh, c'mon! I was KIDDING! Better by kid standards - you know, gummy worms, buttered popcorn, M&Ms. The good stuff. We don't have that kind of stuff at home.
Back on topic - We'll see the movie. To be fair, I did take my son to see the Passion of the Christ, too. My daughters chose not to go with us, but I would have taken them, had they wanted to go. I believe parents should help their children learn to think, and then open them up to all the things there are to think about. |

So, tonight I went to see The DaVinci Code.
In my opinion, it was a decent movie. For those who haven't read the book, it might even be an interesting ride. Some parts and details had been left out and others changed slightly in order to keep the pace of the movie, however, I couldn't see any critical changes.
When you go to see the movie, remember to check the skepticism at the door like with any other Hollywood story, and you'll be just fine. It's a fictional riddle-solving/treasure-hunt movie. When viewed as such, I find no objection.
Except for the Hollywood ending. (Spoiler in next post) |

Why is it that make American movie-producers insist on forcing conclusions on the audience? Don't they think that the average movie-goer is intelligent enough to connect the dots even when the silhouette is clearly visible? The audience does not need to see the sarcophagus in the end: Editing out the last 10 seconds of the movie would raise my grade for the movie from a 3-of-5 to a 3½-of-5.

Now that this whole thing has passed into the Asinine Zone, I have every intention of not only seeing it, but buying the DVD as well. Neither angry Catholics nor snotty reviewers are going to dictate what I read/watch.
I predict great success for the flick if due only to the above attitude; an attitude that is far from unique to me. Ron Howard might be currently crying the blues over the reviewing he got, but, if the thing is not a total dog, he'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
I'll probably start on the book sometime next week.

I read the book. Nice work of fiction based on other fiction. I will go see the movie, if only to piss off any protesters and help get it over the PotC totals (doubtful, but hey a man can dream). |

The movie follows the book really good, with minor alterations, most being less significant scenes and dialogue dropped. I wouldn't be surprised if this one gets an Academy Award nomination for "best adaptation".
On the actors in the movie: I felt that all gave good performances. |

So this is interesting. I wonder how many of the reviews were written by either Catholics or Evangelicals. After all, it should piss of the Jesus crowd as well, making Him less holy and all. The same people control the TV news that control those reviews......hmmmm?
Our forum, friends, and blog reviews should reveal the facts here. |

I don't know if this is true but the character of Leigh Teabing comes from the Authors of the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail by Michael Baignet and Richard Leigh. Teabing is an anagram of Baignet. This book is where Dan Brown got his theory.
