Is the, for the lack of a better adjective, possesive definition of love really a product of the genetic role of a female or is it a social construction ascribed as such?
I suppose it might be a bit of both, but I lean toward more nurture than nature. My husband and I have discussed this issue, and we both want monogamy for similar reasons, and most of those reasons seem to be things that have been ingrained in us by our culture. And in our cases, neither one of us has anything internal nagging at us enough to reject these specific social norms. But other people have different needs, including other women.

I have seen all kinds of stats on cheating ranging from 10% for women and 20% for men to 60% for women and 90% for men. I think the range of stats is largely because it isn't always specified in either the questionaire or the results what constitutes cheating. Some are only considering cheating on a spouse, while other are considering cheating on a significant other as well. Anyway, my guess from reading a lot about it is that the true numbers of cheaters on serious monogramous relationships is somewhere around just under 50% for men and around 25% of women. But take any of these statistics and we see that while men do cheat more than women, most men probably don't cheat, and plenty of women cheat too.

Then again, some studies have shown that while men and women both cheat, they cheat for different reasons, and I suspect that has also to do with both nature and nuture: http://hometown.aol.com/cheatingsigns/page28.html

Anyway, I made the comment about sexism because I think the whole monogamy or polygamy/polyamory question needs to be always regarded as a personal decision for individuals.
