Scientists in England have turned stem cells from am embryo into sperm which are capable of producing offspring.

The breakthrough is likely to lead to new advances in treating male infertility and even the possibility that women could manufacture sperm.

The researchers at Newcastle University say that the advance, when developed further, could help men with certain types of infertility to become fertile and even one day could enable a lesbian couple to have children that genetically would be their own.

Men.....who needs 'em anyway?

And if this comes to pass, I guess the argument that homosexualality does not lead to procreation will be moot. But I suppose the fundies will then argue that these children will be soul-less of some other type of abomination.

This stem cell stuff is wonderful. I find it amazing that stem cells can be coaxed to become sperms. I sure wish I'd had some prepared stem cells ready to be injected to replace the brain cells I lost a couple of years back, when I had a stroke. I'm sure such treatment will someday be standard.

The fundie-duddies will always find some outrageous way to object to everything they don't read as being allowed by the Bible. But they continue to look more and more ridiculous in doing so. Once lifesaving stem cell techniques are commonly available, the fundies will have lost on the issue. They may have most of the political power now, but the winds are shifting. The USA never had a theocracy before -- it's a bizarre aberration in this country. I suspect our ugly experience with this half-formed theocracy will be sufficient to make such a system unattractive to the majority of voters for at least decades to come.

Nah, they'll say we're sacrificing babies for the sake of homosexual couples.

I always wanted a little Beskep. I think It'd be great raising the kid you already know a lot about. Think what you could build on.
