Evans' scam, an all too familiar one to skeptics, involved promises to keep evil spirits and curses at bay in return for increasingly large payments. Note that one die-hard victim refused to come forward because prosecutors "didn't understand how curses worked." Fortunately, they did understand how the law works, and another scammer is out of business, at least for a while.
