The new figures place the Hubble constant in the low 70's and increase the size of the universe to 180 billion LY and the age of the universe to 15.8 billion years.

O, swear not by Hubble, the in-Constant speed,
That yearly changes in her measure'd haste,
Lest that thy Cosmos' size prove likewise variable.

Hmmm. I wonder if adjusting the constant will swing things in favor of interpreting red shift as reflecting a Big Slam instead of a Big Bang?

Hey, I saw that. :)

My answer is of course: "Yes." :)

Of course I never even tried to offer or defend a static universe model of the universe, even though there is growing evidence to support the existence of intrinsically redshifted objects in terms of "MECO"'s, which are allowed for in GR.

These is also evidence to suggest that MECOs could be composed of very massive nuetron stars:

This news places me more "at one" with the Cosmos. My car was made in the early 70's and I too have increased in size since my 50th year.

(But seriously, a Hubble constant revision is interesting news.)

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

Glad to see you're still around, Michael. One of these days I plan to resume the debate. For now I'll file this away as I keep my attention focused on looming school deadlines. But soon...
