I think I saw the latest edition of Morgan Spurlock's (of "Super Size Me" fame) 30 days sitting on my DVR this morning with an episode about and atheist spending 30 days with a religious family.
TV Guide says:
quote: A freethinking mother of four finds religion (for a month, at least) in the home of an evangelical Christian family. “It's not like you have an `unborn-again' experience,” says Brenda as she tells her host family, the Shores, how she became a nonbeliever. During their month together, Brenda attends their Frisco, Texas, nondenominational mega-church as well as Bible-study sessions. No minds are changed, but understanding grows. Says host Scott Shore: “She forced us to look more at ourselves.”
TV Guide has it on FX today, August 10. FX's web site is screwy, so I'm not sure if it's on more than once or what.
Looks like next week is about the New Age. I've only seen a couple of episodes of the show but it seems pretty good.

I saw the one where a christian (can't remember the specific flavour) lived with a family of muslims for the month. It was quite interesting to see how naive the christian was, and how conflicted he felt having to follow some of the islamic practices. The islamic family, and community for that matter, were very accomodating and very aware of the stereotypes often attached to their faith.
I don't think the series is showing in Australia at the moment, but the few episodes I've seen were quite good. |

I watched the one with the atheist. It was pretty good. Everyone was all about respecting the other's viewpoint. Until they met with some people from the North Texas Church of Freethought. One of them asked the religious guy how he'd like having money that said "We don't trust in God." The guy dodged the question and kept saying we live in a country that has "In God We Trust" on the money, and then told the atheist if he didn't like it to leave the country.
On Saturday, they're having a marathon and will show several shows. I'm not sure, but I think this will be one of them. |

If the theocracy takes over in the US, leaving the country because you are different won't be a matter of choice anymore. |

It started at noon here, and my DVR only recorded one show. It was supposed to be a marathon of 7. |
