No, not even then.
When I saw the with-or-against-us speech I just sat there in disbelief asking myself "did he just say that?" and then starting laughing until I realised I was now a potential enemy of the USA.

Rhetoric is a two-edged sword. If you're not in command of it, or use bogus logic, it can backfire, as it did in the above example. I bet most educated people outside USA laughed.
Three citizens of Sweden spent 5 years in economical limbo since USA decided on undisclosed and probably very dubious evidence that they were giving financial aid to terrorists, and ordered their assets frozen. One of them was even a member of the Swedish Parliament! Just recently they were written off because apparently there was only bogus "evidence" against them, without even an apologise for the inconvenience. Edited to add: Such poorly prepared actions that harm innocent people only create more disgust for the American government, and potential enemies. Though only about a quarter of America's citizens are responsible for putting the current president where he and his neo-cons can do the damage they do, unfortunately the rest of you are going to suffer for it. |
