Nearly everyone recognizes it, the overwhelming and somewhat startling sound of the THX theater trademark audio effect called "Deep Note." Several versions of THX theatrical trailers have been made since Dr. James "Andy" Moorer created the sound with about 20,000 lines of C code on a Lucas supercomputer in 1982.

This is my favorite of the Deep Note trailers, created for The Simpsons, then used by THX as a real trailer.

Someone did a spoof in which the THX slogan was changed to "THE AUDIENCE IS DEAF."

Tiny Toons, Dave. Didn't know you were a fan.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.
