Seriously, we should all start attending sunday services at evangelical churches.
In the runup to the midterm elections especially.

And when they start talking politics and telling people who to vote for (you know they all tell you who to vote for) then we turn them in to the IRS.

It's all very complicated, isn't it?
But fear not for I have a simple solution: tax the churches like anybody else, let them politic as they wish, and then Falwell and the rest of those sanctimonous grifters can be busted for evasion.
Neat, huh?

Abolish "religious freedom"!
With freedom of speech, the right to assemble and freedom of association there is no need to have a "freedom of religion" specified. Nobody has ever needed "ideological freedom", "spiritual freedom" or "speculative freedom".
Freedom of religion only gives some of the religious the freedom to lie to, steal from, hurt and oppress others.

Perhaps I'm missing something. How does taxing impact religious freedom? The founders set up freedom of religion to protect unfetered worship of whatever diety the person chose. That none of these religious could be elevated or suppressed by law. Giving them a tax break was elevating them. Time to pull the funding plug. If they can prove that they are still providing charitable works and qualify for a 501(c)(3) exemption, then they can also abide by the restrictions on corporate speech that other non-profits have.
