It is a sorry state of affairs indeed, when an ignorant redneck like me knows more about Mid-Eastern culture than our supposed leaders. quote: Lott On Iraq: ‘Why Do Sunnis Kill Shiites? … They All Look The Same To Me'
Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS), who famously suggested the U.S. wouldn't have “all these problems” had Strom Thurmond been elected President, said today that the religious differences among Iraqis makes the conflict very difficult for him to understand:
“It's hard for Americans, all of us, including me, to understand what's wrong with these people,” he said. “Why do they kill people of other religions because of religion? Why do they hate the Israeli's and despise their right to exist? Why do they hate each other? Why do Sunnis kill Shiites? How do they tell the difference? They all look the same to me.“
I, among others, predicted the current Iraqi mess before the invasion. Those religious differences go back many centuries and they have often been bloody.
Lott also fails to see the same, historical differences in Christianity. In N. Ireland, those bloody differences are still with us today. And like Iraq, they morphed from another invasion.
They all look the same to me, too. The difference is that I, unlike Lott and our "War President" , know some of their history.

Nothing wrong with having a red neck, Filthy. It's the gray matter that counts. Senator Lott just doesn't have a... lot.

I wish he'd just shut the fuck up, peroid! There's enough drooling foolery around Washington without his gob spewing more.
Wasn't he in some sort of ethics hassle a couple of years or so ago? What happened with that?

It just points out what a different world some of our leaders exist in. |

He got appointed to a House Ethics Comittee.
I think you can do the math on that one. His 1999 questionable conduct became "okey-dokey" with the shift in power in 2001.
And I agree that any of your cute and cuddly friends wouldn't sully their mouths biting him.

And he doesn't understand why Arabs dislike Israelis????? what the fck
Are our leaders being educated at all? Do they have the basic knowledge of historical events to understand what it is they are 'fighting' against? Its not like this happened in ancient times, this happened relatively recently.
And they go into Iraq NOT understanding the difference between sunni and shiite????????????? Can I smack them now?
I don't know whether to laugh my ass off or cry ... or start a coup.
or maybe hang my head in shame that our 'leaders' don't know why there is conflict between Arabs (and therefor most muslim ... by the way, they DO know the difference between Arabs and Muslim, right?!) and israelis, or what the difference between sunni and shiite is and why it mattered to know that BEFORE going into iraq. Their gray matter? Looks brown to me ....
(by the way, just like the islraeli/palestinian conflict, the whole thing with Ireland started out as a conflict about land and taking freedom away from people. Within the recent past people have seen it as a conflict between Catholics and Protestants, but it isn't. There have been many Protestants who fought with their Irish Catholic countrymen to free Ireland.) |
