Turettes syndrom perhaps? The religious nuts kill another one. At least this time they're being charged.

Just read one of the letters to the editor on Canoe.ca, and the writer asks why the pastor and the members of the congregation who visited during the posession are not being charged as accessories.
Good question! Can't wait to see the responses to THAT letter!

That is a good question, Badger. I have another one: Why didn't anyone call for an ambulance? At least in a hospital, they have better restraints; if requested, the hospital staff will not do anything to prolong the patients. At the least, the staff could have given their son fluids intravenously.
Oy.

Gosh, imagine that, an already dehydrated kid acting delusional. What are the chances?
On a lighter note, I have begun to wonder why the devil possesses only fundamentalists and their family members. I mean, wouldn't well-adjusted atheists, like ourselves, be easier targets? It's not like we're vigilant for it or anything. Hellllllllooooooo, Satan can you read me? I'd like to be possessed now. I haven't had a good internal conflict in eons. Heeeeelllllllllloooooooo????

It's not Tourette's Syndrome. I have Tourettes, it's an inherited condition that begins in early childhood, it doesn't just appear over night. While coprolalia (uncontrolled cussing) is the most famous symptom of TS, only about 10% to 15% of people with TS have it. More common symptoms are motor tics like eye blinking, shoulder shrugging and vocal tics such as grunting, snorting, and sniffing. While my TS is mild, some members of my local New Mexico TS group have quite debilitating tics (although none of them have coprolalia). In the past they would have been treated as if they were possessed, as apparently many were. My first guess would be a hallucinogenic drug - LSD and/or PCP. If I had to pick a neurological condition it would be schizophrenia as it often manifests in the late teens or early twenties. Regardless of the cause, I agree the priest should be charged as an accessory. The problem with priests like that is they don't know their own limitations. He could have just as easily rid the young man of his bad juju in the hospital; he could have let modern medicine cure the kid then taken the credit like they usually do.

The kid was posessed by the devil. In this case, the devil just happenned to be his delusional parents and a psychotic priest.

Gee, and according to the yoyos at my door, I'm more likely to be possessed than Athiests. After all, they claim I am "in league" with the Devil. How does one become "in league" with a concept that has no meaning to ones religion? Oh, and Catholics have their share of "possessions". Chicago Cardinal Francis George (a poor substitute for the man who preceeded him, Cardinal Joseph Bernadin) is a firm believer in excorcism.
