It's that wonderful time of the year again. It's Guy Fawkes Day, people! A lovely time for drunken singing, night-time bonfires, and righteous sectarian hatred.

Here's to the old Guy!

From Wiki:
quote:
Remember, remember the fifth of November,
The gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see of no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below,
Poor old England to overthrow:
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, make the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip hoorah!

(traditionally the following verses were also sung, but they have fallen out of favour because of their content)

A penny loaf to feed the Pope.
A farthing o' cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down.
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head.
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip hoorah!
Hip hip hoorah hoorah!

I saw the movie for free, so it wasn't like I had real high expectations of it, I just want my 132 minutes back. Okay, I'll settle for 127 minutes, since I didn't watch the credits.

I'm not yet drunk, Half, but you sticklers for being on-topic just make me sick (how's that for the SFN version of sectarian hatred?). The bonfires are unavailable to me, as I just planted new grass, and would like it to have a fighting chance for a while.

Set a bonfire in the middle of the street, Dave, and make it a unifying sectarian spectacle for the whole neighborhood.

Ah, so I should rant and rave about how the people in the next cul-de-sac over are somehow sub-human monstrosities who don't deserve such high property values? Something like that?

Good plan, Dave! Then, maybe the troglodytes in the cul-de-sac will start their own unifying fire. If you do this right, your whole whole town could become engulfed in a conflagration of sectarian cooperation.

Are you sure you got that right, B.? Might he not have instead have been sparked by the alignment of the Druids to see the inner planets? If so, he may be home late.

I did...

And I didn't think it was that crappy.

I was visiting a friend, and it we didn't plan to see the movie because it was Guy Fawkes day. It just happened and wasn't part of the conscious desision-making process.
