Every now and again, I like to drop in on AiG's happy, little hive and see what's going on. It's quite a resource, really. They keep track of just about everything that comes down the evolutionary pike. It saves me the trouble of doing it, and the apologetics are often good for a chuckle.
So, yesterday I walked in, sat down and examined a screed showing that something named Volaticotherium antiquus was another example demonstrating Bible inerrency. Or some damned thing -- I don't pay a lot of attention over there, just look for interesting stuff. Like the name of a new, ancient mammal species from the fecund fossil sites of China.
Having had my interest piqued, I went right to Google and looked it up. It turns out that this little guy was wafting about the the forests of the dinosaurs, 125 million years ago.

Cute little bugger, isn't it? Looks like a carnivorous flying squirrel. I wonder if there is any evidence that this might be an ancestor of modern bats?
(BTW, the image you posted isn't working for me.)

Can't think why the image might not work. Sorry 'bout that, but no matter. It's the same one as in the article.
No, these would not have been a bat ancestor. Bats have their wing membranes stretched between elongated fingers, rather than their legs.
Sadly, little is known about bat evolution. I'm sort'a hoping that the same fossil beds will yield a proto-bat.
