Most definitely. I followed the trail before and it indeed has its roots in the Nixon era growing stronger and more widespread with Reagan. The current administration and the supporters have the same mentality of foreign policy as those two Presidencies as well.

YO! I've been using a term for a few years now which describes what's happening to the US: it's Israelization. That's when differing factions are so wedged apart by asshole demogogues (usually with religiosity and socio/cultural values) that fundamental arguments erupt over what our nation actually stands for.

It's a very bad sign; one of poor or NO leadership, corruption and economic decay.

This bad Goode guy is forever missing the fucking point!!! All religions, cultures, ethnicities and races have some assholes as members.

Using a Bible or the Qoran (however you spell it) has nothing to do, whatsoever, with the integrity of a person in or out of public service.

Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Druids, Shintoists (you name it) are all eligible to become public servants in the US if they meet the age requirements, are citizens and get the most votes. If one of them wishes to swear on a Batman Comic Book, that's his or her privilege to do so. I think I'd use a book of poetry by e. e. cummings, myself.

What's most expected of them is to uphold the Constitution and serve their constituents with intergrity and zeal.

Christians are the majority religion in the US, which is a liberal democracy. Minorities, of all kinds, are THE VERY FIRST thing that a liberal democracy protects...OR IT ISN'T A LIBERAL DEMOCRACY, MR. GOODE! Oh, the joy of theocracy!!! Bloodletting everywhere!!! Hello!!!!

The fact that so many Americans, these days (whether they're Christians or not), are having difficulty understanding this fundamental element in the founding of our country, does not bode well for any of us. But it DOES make our enemies perk up some.

So, let's just keep fighting over this elemental chink in the foundation of the US, and see how soon we start having skirmishes across the borders of blue and red states (not unlike the Gaza Strip.) Bush would say, "Bring It On," the visionless bastard.

OY!!!

I'm hip. What were these people in Minn. thinking?

Since no name was explicitly attached to the title "Rep", I'm assuming that the following discussion rests on a misunderstanding.

Pleco referred to Virgil Goode as a pathetic excuse for an American.

I cannot see any way to interpret Bill scott's respone other than as in 'you're right, pleco What were these people in Minn. thinking, electing Virgil Goode?'

...to which I concur whole-heartedly, and for once I seem to be in agreement with Bill. How about that?
