Ailing Cuban President cured by surgery, robotics Habana, Cuba, December 25, 2006 (CRP) -- Cuban strong-man Fidel Castro, the longest-serving Communist leader in history, today was released from the hospital where he had been confined. Castro has ruled his island nation with an iron fist since coming to power by revolution in 1959.
"The Spanish surgeon and the Japanese roboticists performed an amazing operation on me," the 80 year old Comandante en Jefe said.
Castro is of two minds about the procedure. "They told me," said Castro "that with my advanced abdominal cancer, having my head connected to a robot was the only way I would survive. Raul and the Party insisted I undergo the operation for the sake of the Revolution, so I did. Nobody ever bothered to show me what kind of robot I'd be connected to, though. I'd imagined something like a giant war robot, a machina perhaps with more machismo than this."
Asked how he felt, Castro answered, "To the extent I have any feelings at all anymore, I feel fine. In terms of pain, anyway. I no longer feel any. But how am I ever going to play beisbol again? If I could only pick up my pistol, I'd shoot myself."
