Don't know if this has been up before. There's a web site with public domain patents. They included a section on crazy patents I got a kick out of.

Apparently there is one for "Apparatus for facilitating the birth of a child by centrifugal force". You can't go directly to it and I didn't register.

Other ones link to the application like the patent of a plastic stick which is supposed to be a toy animal. Maybe like a pet rock or something.

I like the patent application for "Animal Toy," a stick-like device that's supposed to be a dog's chew toy. Left undefined are little matters such as the toy's shape, construction, or material. Thus, it could cover pretty much anything of interest to a dog.

The fellow who thought up that "invention" clearly had no original ideas at all, but simply wanted to so broadly describe his "toy" that the patent would include every kind of chew toy imaginable, including natural bones, sticks, etc. He must have thought he could then claim infringement and sic his lawyers on everyone from Hartz Mountain to Mother Nature. Hilarious!
