Just as an aside, I'm working from an old, old laptop right now, with a max resolution of 800x600. The image size, above, makes the whole thread wide enough that I've gotta scroll to the right to see all the words. For example, Kil's "Go figure..." was cut off before scrolling.
Now, I don't know how many people are reading SFN with this sort of ancient technology, and I would guess that most visitors are viewing with at least 1024x768 resolution, but the few low-res viewers should be considered when choosing a size for viewing here.
(The originals, of course, should always be worked on at as high a resolution as you can tolerate, just in case someone wants to turn one of these images into products. ) |

My own guess is that keeping the widths down to 640 pixels is pretty much the sweet spot. The 800 x 600 size of your screen is really unusually narrow. I thought we'd arrived at 640 max during a discussion. How narrow would work for you on this site, Dave?

Good question, Half. I'm back downstairs using my normal computer right now, so my screen resolution is 1280x1024. Hard to test stuff under these conditions, but I've gotta get the Summary done along with some chores. That laptop isn't set up with all my usual tools, either, making testing even more difficult.
Speaking of tools, let me go check our Web site stats (duh!)... Well, shoot. Some web servers at some point in time would give one a breakdown of not only the visitors' operating system and browser, but also screen resolution. Ours, now, does not. And looking at the raw logs shows that that data isn't recorded. I was hoping to be able to report the percentage of visitors at low resolutions, but cannot. |

I think there's Java utilities that can report such things. Maybe @ could consider installing one?

Mmm, I'm using 800x600 and it looks just fine to me. |
