Continuum image in next post to avoid the front page problems. When you have an evolution denier in a discussion, ask them where they fall on this continuum. Then ask them why they chose that spot as opposed to more Biblically literal or more scientifically supported by the evidence?
Gets 'em thinking about the fact not all Christians agree. Opens the dogma mind a crack sometimes.
Here's the website it's from and more info on it.
quote: Many -- if not most -- Americans think of the creation and evolution controversy as a dichotomy with "creationists" on one side, and "evolutionists" on the other. This assumption all too often leads to the unfortunate conclusion that because creationists are believers in God, that evolutionists must be atheists. The true situation is much more complicated. I encourage people to reject the creation/evolution dichotomy and recognize the creation/evolution continuum. It is clear that creationism comes in many forms. If a student tells a teacher, "I´m a creationist", the teacher needs to ask, "What kind?"

Normally 2 written lines of text is sufficent to avoid front page problems. 50-60 characters. |

And thanks for the post.
It's a thought-provoking one. This is our own wedge into creationist/magical thinking. |

According to the NCSE resource, the difference is more theological then scientific. As I understand it, the evolutionary creationists think that God upholds the laws governing evolution, continuously guiding it if you will. On the other hand, theistic evolutionists will be more prone to go in the direction of a deistic God, who winds up the clockwork and then lets it go.
Which would in fact justify putting more scales on the continuum still. If evolutionary creationism holds to a continuously intervening God and we set this apart, we can also seperate theistic evolution in a number of subdivisions for those who take a purely deistic view to those who have a view more in between evolutionary creationism and deism. Those who think along the lines of winding up, letting it go but with checkpoints throughout history. |

Because so many ID creationists refuse to answer the question, "how old is the Earth," I wouldn't give IDC so much "respect" as putting it where it is on the continuum. I would have stuck it smack-dab in-between YEC and OEC. |
