Here's my fourth parody Chick Tract.

The original was "The Greatest Story Ever Told". This one was a fairly standard "life of Christ" tale (aside from a hint of what I suspect was unconscious homoeroticism).

In no way does my parody reflect the thinking of Jack Chick, or of Chick Publications! Please do not confuse my hatchet-job with a real Chick Tract hatchet job! Nor does SFN nor James Randi nor any of the JREF folks have anything to do with this parody. It's all my fault!

Hey Half I really enjoyed this one. When I first read it, I was going to comment, but then I got distracted and I forgot about it.

I thought the "child rearing techniques" panel was particulary funnny.

Thanks, Pleco! I now at least know that my own reactions were not 100% malignant hysterical laughter.

Each panel presented its own challenge as I wracked what's left of my brain to find a way to twist the familiar scene to either the plot I was seeking, or at least into lunacy. I especially enjoyed that process, plus the fun of researching Jewish humor (almost a redundancy, that phrase), which has its own entry at Wiki.

Sorry to have been such a whiner at The Water Cooler, but look at it this way: What would a comedian think, were he engaged in a long-term contract at a casino, and almost every night he'd do his act to total silence? Then also add that management remains perfectly happy with him, and there are no complaints from the patrons. I think he'd either go nuts, or start reciting the phone book one night, just to see if that got a reaction.

Please note I gave Randall some dialogue in the next to last strip.

This one was good, but perhaps a little too parodiedd for me. Perhaps even a little burlesque, if that's not too strong or inappropriate a term, especially for a chick tract!

That's not to say you could have or should have done it differently, it just didn't give me as many laughs as your previous ones.

John's just this guy, you know.

Thanks, John! I appreciate any reviews. It's kinda hard to come up with anything at all as a spoof of the Jesus tale -- at least without copying some earlier efforts, like The Life of Brian. And of course, subtle variations in peoples' sense of humor are going to prevent humor becoming a scientific field for the foreseeable future.

I honestly thought this last one was better than The Rat's Generation. But clearly, the first one, drawn by Chick himself, was the best, and that quality of my effort was driven by the manic energy of Chick's insane original. It may well be that the tracts inked by other artists lose a bit of the edge of Chick's madness in translation, and that this madness is what makes Chick originals the best parody fodder.
