I think it is always a good idea to *consider the source* at all times and not become too incensed or out of joint about anything such morons/imbeciles comes up with. I feel sorry for the folks who do not have any scientific knowledge. It must be a frightening world to them, considering the horrible consequences their religion (take your pick) will rain down on them. Living like that leaves a lot to be pitied.

So, pity them. Of course, they are all down there in their cellars of *learning* plotting how to dismember the scientific establishment.

Some of them will go through their entire lives not really knowing anything about the universe. What a wasted life that would be, believing only in religious fairy tales.

Those who do not know better, or do not do better are to be pitied. We can all cry crocodile tears...

Holy shit!! Did anyone see Gauss's reply to Otomo over on BA? I've seen some pretty good flames before (Piper, JW, Jack White, et. al.) but I think I'll print this one out. When Gauss (or whoever he is this week) puts his mind to it, the guy (or whatever) can really rock. I don't know who Otomo is, but now that Gauss has him in his sites, this could get entertaining. Alas, after the massive flaming he just took, I rather doubt he'll be back.
Let's point Gauss at Pancho next.

chuckle...Yes it was entertaining...quite refreshing after my afternoon chasing down cardinalities of infinities.

And make certain you catch Kristin's response too...although Phil may have to edit/delete it.

Hey Torsten, I thought the name looked familar. :) Not to many of the old guys left. Mainly just Phil and Hub'. lol. Yeah, I remember the Geocentrists, what happened to them? They were unbelievable. Remember JW and the anti-relativity crowd too? I posted an article from Salon that talked about the anti-einstien kooks on the net and JW and John Kieren accused me of racism, lol.

Well, there are a few of us there still. Karl, Tim Thompson, Ilya and RM Mentock were there three years ago. Their participation is less frequent these days. Keith showed up almost three years ago, and is in there steadily. Haven't seen much of Jim lately.

Remember these names: gbaikie, Jeff Fuka, Paul Below, Wicked Son (now posting as Rosen), The Admiral (still shows up now and again), Karl NE (aka Karl2, not to be mistaken with Another Karl, who's been there for quite a while), Dave Todd (who spent more time at the IC boards -- ditto for Ratchet), Joel Clifton?

I guess the geocentrists just ran out of steam. There's simply not many of them to carry the torch, and I think it's because it requires a form of fundamental belief that's, well, way off the scale even by fundamentalist standards.

Hey, I remember that article! http://www.salon.com/people/feature/2000/07/06/einstein/index.html
If I remember correctly, the anti-Einstein crowd just about came unglued at that point. Did you ever lurk at the IC boards that were linked from Phil's? They were really a lot of fun, and sometimes really raucous, it's too bad they shut 'em down. JW at one point was putting up about 30% of the posts and was in a fight every way he turned. There was a guy named Larry Falzitto who was really fun to toy with. At one point he threatened to sic his lawyers on us, but I actually think he was one of those street people who preach on the corners and go into the library to warm up, and who happened to discover the computers in there!

Anyway, glad you've decided to stay there. Enjoy.

I'll be back to lurking now.

TK

I missed Kirsten's response :( lol

Yeah I went over to the IC board a couple of times but never posted, are you sure JW only posted about 30%? :)

I couldn't stand JW and is one of the reasons I stopped coming to the board a year or so ago. Glad he finally got the hint and doesn't post anymore.

Does anybody know what's up with this dude called John Bro Wilkie? He posted over a http://www.badastronomy.com/wwwboard/messages/5634.html under the title of "Be entertained." John's claiming that he's, quote:"legitamately a professional space alien." BA already responded to him, BTW.

IMO, John here is nuttier than all of our regular HB's put together. Then again, he does say that he's from California, so that might explain why...

In my response to Bro, I have a link to both his page and to a page I wrote about him years ago. He was on Sightings, one of the worst TV shows ever, claiming that he had a new technique to videotape UFOs. Personally, they looked an awful lot like tree seeds to me, but I am no super-scientist. ;-)

What's the deal with this latest bunch of high-strung opionated "it's junk science" bunch over at BABB? Sequester, Otomo, Wildcat??? Rude and obnoxious, sheesh.

If I hear one more idiot say global warming is junk science I'll scream...

I dunno, Rift. Maybe we need to refer to the Rubysue Troll Predictor Algorithm.

(I missed the one by Wildcat...it must have been wiped.)

I thought I worked hard at putting everyone to sleep with that long thread regarding probabilities and infinite sequences etc etc etc.

The thread is down aways. But still there.

http://www.badastronomy.com/wwwboard/messages/5430.html

Be sure to read all the follow ups, Steve A has the same point of view I have regarding global warming...

And where the hell is rubysue? Did she predict this bunch of morons? :)

I'm here, Rift and Zandermann! I've been busy battling the voting test advocates over in the general dicussion folder (stupid bumper sticker topic, by the way, if you're interested).

I haven't done much over the BABB lately; a few of the topics I've posted or commented on recently have died very quickly. My predictor algorithm probably needs a corollary or alternate computation that predicts the cycle of the smart-ass troll. I think the basic equation has been derived assuming a nominal mission trajectory of stupid, grammatically-challenged post-and-run trolls on the BABB, not a 6DOF dispersion of nasty, mean, ugly trolls with sharp, pointed sticks of poisoned rudeness.

[Whew - I'd better quit the tequila...LOL]

Is it just me, or do there seem to be more trolls than usual over on BA? For a while, all we had was Piper, JW, Jack White, and Conspriacy Dave. They were all so predictable we could answer them in our sleep. I started appreciating them for their entertainment value. Why go out and get a weekly world news, when I can just veg in front of my computer? Besides, there's beer here.
Now it seems we're being assulted on all sides by a very different weirdness. It's nothing I can put my finger on, (probably because of the aforementioned beer), but it feels creepier somehow.

Hmmmmm.......should I put my earplugs in, then, Rift? I don't believe it's all junkscience, but I do believe there is a lot of junk science involved, and a lot of the legitimate science has been overstated.

And regarding your list of trollers, I don't understand why you've included Wildcat. He did call it junk science, but otherwise his posts have been quite tame (he's allowed to be opinionated, as are the rest of us). In fact, I find his tone much more civil than your comments about those who are not 'believers' (I'm not saying this derogatorily; it's the best word I can think of) in global warming are being ignorant.

In any case, when I get a bit more time, I'm going to jump in on Wildcat's side. Should be fun, and I hope you see it that way, too. Should that discussion continue here or on BA?

In any case, I've got to get back to my corporate profiteering and oppression of the masses. More later.

My kids still love me.
