Rob posts on the BA board. Sometimes he'll have an intelligent comment to make, but he's big into conspiracy stuff. He's really into all the Area 51 mythos. Several people have pointed out to him that it's a restricted area because we test prototype equipment there, but he's having none of it. To his mind, we're hiding space aliens. Heck, every military installation in the world has "stop or we'll shoot" signs around it. He points out that the security at our testing range is very tight. No shit, Sherlock. If I was the commander and every freaking wing-nut in the country was trying to sneak onto my installation, I'd send out a few extra patrols too. When I have nothing better to do, I run over to the BA board and give him grief. This probably makes me part of the grand conspiracy, but that's okay. I think Rob is at his happiest when he thinks he's being persecuted.
I really didn't care until he gave a snotty answer to one of Megan's posts, and that kind of ticked me off.

Our friendly neighborhood piss-ant, Piper, is back and, from the looks of things, (un?)fortunetly he's back to normal.
And he's pulled out his latest pic, the one of the lander, astronaut, and the boulders which "look" like buildings.

I just saw that!! And it's the exact same picture that Rift already debunked! This time, I'm just going to ignore him. I've flamed him a couple of times myself, but it's like talking to a wall. I take that back, wallpaper is interesting compared to Piper. Maybe I should let Megan loose on him again. He seems to get upset about losing arguments to little 14 year old girls.

Here's my surprise of the day! Piper has just told us a little about himself. Not what I imagined. Gads, he's only 42 years old. For some reason, I had pictured him as much, much, older. I saw him as a retired Joe Sixpack with a deep mistrust in the guvmint. Wonder if I could get any more info out of him? I guess I could try playing nice. He probably won't answer, I've flamed him a couple of times.

Oh wow, Piper is really going at it over there. No really new material though. Just the same: "Since you don't believe there's intelligent life on Mars, I'm smarter than you" stuff. I can't help but wonder what would happen if the entire (and I mean 100%) board were to just ignore him. I know this could never happen. Reining in that board would be like herding cats.

1: Try e-mail. I was gonna suggest e-mail, but you probably noticed his reaction to the last time I posted against him.
2: You wouldn't happen to know where your interaction is/was with Rob? I can't seem to find it on BABB. Maybe because I'm not keeping up with everything like I used to...
3: I read about Russ' analysis about Piper, but couldn't seem to find it. Care to clue me in?

About that Van Flandern paper. I read it, very little actual science in the damn thing. This man believes mars is the moon of an exploded planet... That just happened to settle in a perfect orbit without messing up all the other planets.. yeah... no wonder Piper thinks he's a "non-bogus scienctist"

James, the post I'm talking about with Rob was about halfway down when I left for work this afternoon. It was in response to a question asked by our young skepticfriend Megan, titled "I don't get it". The thread has probably dropped even lower now. You know, he could have saved himself a lot of grief had he worded things differently. Instead of "there's keep out signs around Military posts, so they're doing something sinister", he had asked "hey, Military types, why are there signs around installations?", he'd have gotten good answers that didn't include flames. Guess he has some issues.

Just read the Rob thread. Sheesh. Typical anti-governmnet conpiracy nut...
Living near Leavenworth I have a unique perspective I guess. It's a military town, so I hear both sides. I'm a 'townie' and proud but some people here just hate the military and the government for no real reason. It's also a prison town so I hear all that too.
It surprises me that Rob is for the War on Drugs. Most of these nuts i've talked to online think that our prisons are packed full of people who don't deserve it (for carrying an ounce of pot, or whatever) while murders go free. Well, i can tell you that's not the case here. My brother works for the prison (as do many of my friends). He teaches Votech to these guys (mostly to keep them busy, most of them aren't getting out). NONE of them are in there for drug possesion, lol. One of his students is in there for putting a bomb in a christmas present and killing 7 of his family.
So it just ticks me off when people say the War on Drugs is just filling up our prisons with people who don't belong there.
Oh wow, what a rant, lol.
Oh, btw, I wonder why McVeigh wasn't brought here... I would have liked to seen all the media circus. :) I just read that the media out numbered protesters 10 to 1 in Terra Haute, lol. We sometimes get the Leonard Peltier people, since he's up there, but it's not nearly at the same scale... The kansas state prison is set to execute their first prisoner in a year or two, that's about a mile from my house :)
Okay, I'll stop babbling now :)

Sorry to get Rob started in on the drug war thing. I made that crack because the only way someone could believe all that crap is if he was on some pretty serious stuff. I've noticed that people like Rob think that every ill in the world is because of a government conspiracy. I can wrap mind mind around a lot of weird shit, just to see where the opposition is coming from, for nothing else. I guess it's his obsession with the signs around military installations that really pisses me off. There's signs like that right here at Ellsworth. The air and space museum right outside the gate gives guided tours. As far as the missile mock up site on base, sometimes I'd love to give Rob a guided tour without the benefit of the elevator. 
What really torqued me, frosted my shorts, etc was his snotty reply to Megan. It will be hard for me to forgive that one.

He's reply to Megan was uncalled for. And signs like that are VERY common around here, lol. Of course we also have "DO NOT PICK UP HITCHIKERS- PRISON AREA" signs every few feet :) The scary thing around here is that you can see the guards in the guard towers with sniper rifles and crap :P
Prisons aside, what idiots like Rob doesn't realize is there are things we WANT the government to keep secret. Did you make any sense about his F-117 remark? lol We should give it to all nations of the world? lol The guy is in lala land.
