I wonder... would it be possible to add a feature to this BBS that would provide a link to our Federal represenatives' email? Something that would accept our zip code and look up the proper senators and congressperson? That way it would be easy to send an opinion to our reps when we're all fired up by somebody's posting about an issue.

Funny you should mention that. When the next big forum upgrade comes there will indeed be a place to enter your zip code in order to receive personalized content like weather. I will also be revamping the links section so that it's easy for any member to submit a link and for the links to easily be searched(let's here it for related data!). I also want to have move info on current happenings related to forums. I have code for a news area that will go at the top of each forum that moderators can update(if they wish)with related news etc.

Lots of changes coming but I am waiting for a new version of the base Snitz code to be released before I get into it. The multi-language support will be really cool and if any members want to translate articles into other languages selecting for example French will not only give the menu in French but also any articles translated into French. It will be a great opportunity to reach even more people.

But look at me ramble LOL @tomic has been thinking about this way too much.

But I do love ideas for zip code based content. We have a server component that allows me to easily grab data from other sites if if I want.

Great idea!

No offence Donnie but that info is very easy to get on the Net or otherwise.
BUT, if your represenatives are anything like mine you might not want to bother, LOL.
My senators, Barbara Boxer and Diane Finestein are ASSheads, when I've sent them emails all I get is a 'prerecorded' response and sometimes not even related to the subject I wrote about. One had to wonder A LOT, if they read them or even care.

I know it's easy to get, but I was thinking how sweet it would be to read about some outrage (like parts of Shrub's budget) and just click from here straight to Rep. Neal's office...

I think your senators are getting your message, even if they don't take time to answer everybody personally. They have staff members who read everything and tabulate the feedback on many issues, and "bump things upstairs" for more detailed handling if appropriate.

Your feedback is most effective if you refer to a specific bill, and say whether you favor it or not. Those quick and clean messages definitely get tabulated. If you make them wade through some long diatribe, though, they might just click on to the next thing.

Also, for specific problems with a government agency (rather than expressing a policy opinion) you should start with your congressman, not your Senator. They have much smaller constituencies and can give more individual attention.

I believe that *whatever exists, exists*. I would not wish to be BLASPHEMOUS like all of the religious sillies who pretend to have some kind of superior prior knowledge. Therefore, if what you believe is true, AND if it can be scientifically demonstrated, then we can agree. Otherwise, no proselytization, please.

I am economically conservative (except when somebody's silly religion is brought into the economic equations). In almost every other respect, I am quite liberal.

Oh, ok, didn't realize why you were asking.

I didn't mean they personaly would read it. I know they have a staff.
LOL, my congressmans staff, in fact many of my representitives know me too well.
The one time I got an inappropriate response was when I wrote from Finesteins web site, put the topic of the correspondece and a short comment. A form email came back thanking me for my email and referring to a completey different subject. Yeah, yeah, mistakes happen, right! It was just a computer response. Yes but doesn't that tell you something?

I'm quite good at the art of complaining... to government officals, store managers, and the like.
No one wants to hear someone ramble on about their life story before they get to the point.

Yes, thank you for the advice, I have a list handy by the phone, it has my local police, city council, trash collector, county suppervisor, state rep, and whoever else who needs to know about anything going on in my community that needs fixing.
I do try to call the appropriate agency 1st.

This isn't about you or me. Our troubles don't amount to a hill of beans...oh! Whoops, wrong speech.
Sometimes when I listen to a radio talk show and the host is answering a question, I'm thinking, how elementary, doesn't he or the caller already know that. But there are so many others listening who might not know, for whatever reason. Doesn't mean they are stupid so let's remember others are reading this too and they might want to know.
We are just better than they are, for knowing, heh, he.

Hey. I was thinking about this after a conversation I had had with a friend about religion. He was talking about how he was comenting on his mothers diving and almost blurted out "Jesus Christ". Naturally, his mother got down his back about how he was using the Lords name in vain. ()(major eye-rolling done here by me)

But back to my thinking:
Definition fo Atheist:
1. One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods
atheist

2. One who disbelieves or denies the existence of a God, or supreme intelligent Being.

3. A godless person

So now that we know what an atheist exactly is, my question is since I'm an atheist, does that mean I dont believe in Saiten or Hell?? I mean I know what I do and dont believe in, it's just that............ok I confused myself

Hi, Megan,

God, Jesus, angels, demons, Satan, Hell... they're all part of the same theistic mythology. If you don't believe in God, how can you accept any of the rest of it?

It would be like saying, I don't believe in Odin, but man, that Thor is some kindo thunder god!

Beliving in Satan is a lot easier then beliving in God.

A Omipotent, Ominscient and Omnibenevolent entity as the creator of the Universe might not make much sense to a logical thinking person, who occasionally opens his eyes and takes a look at the world around him, but a merley really powerfull evil entity is easy to fit in the world we live in. It is not necessary and can be stripped away by Occams Razor, but it is far easier to belive in than God.

I don't really know about angels and stuff, but I have some very intresting theories about Hell.

Why not? Those phanteons were not always a closed or clearly defined group. It was more of a fluent thing. You walk through europe and every village worships almost exactly the same gods as its neighbor. At the end of your journey you would find that the gods here are completly different from the gods were you started.
If I remeber correctly, Thor was a lot more popular then Odin at the end.
