Check through American Atheists. Or you might try MAAF, but that's military atheists and to register you need to be military or prior military - though I think there are probably a few stationed in the area.

Thanks, but I don't think the girlfriend would appreciate me checking a singles board. I'm looking more for some signs of the rational segment of the population. I'm sure they're here, just keeping their heads down. Did I mentioned that everyone here owns a gun? What we're looking for is a group that where we can discuss some of the things we're interested in. The old lady next door is very sweet, but she isn't likely to want to chat about the historical inaccuracies of the bible or the idiocy of the chelation therapy clinic down the road.

I was thinking about starting a skeptics discussion group. I belonged to the New England Skeptic Society and enjoyed the meetings when I could make it. I havn't a clue as to where to start though, especially since I don't know many people down here.

Contact the NE Skeptic Society and see if they have any suggestions for you. Maybe they can even point you in the right direction for a skeptic society that's not too far away for assistance.

Remember one thing--in Bristol CT everybody didn't own a gun. Don't put yourself in danger. Just grab the kid and run. If his mom took him to Mississippi she can't be a fit parent anyway.

Don't even get me started. Marriage lasted 8 months, custody battle 18. I have a great deal as far as the boy is concerned though. He's with me 7 days out of every 14. Complete equal custody. Moving to MS was worth it.

Have you tried going to other skeptic/science/freethinker boards? A post like "Is anyone here from Mississippi?" might yield results.

You were a member of NESS? cool! I am a friend of Steve and Perry. Was the first person to sign up when they formed the CT skeptic society, which grew into the NESS. Only went to a couple of the meetings tho. Like the one where Michele Shermer spoke at. Where you there?
Good luck in finding like minded people. Easier to find an out-of-the-closet homosexual than an out-of-the-closet atheist.
oh yea, I tried out that freethinker match site. No one in my area
