I'm saddened to be bringing the news that Lance Allred passed away yesterday. I got to know him a little personally over dinner a few times when he was living in Los Angeles. And you know. He was a moderator of a couple of our forum topics here and actively contributed to making this forum what it was, when we were a going concern. I'm sorry to bring you this news.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

If you'd like to know more about Lance's work, and why he called himself Cuneiformist, check these Google search results.

Note well that he is not the deaf NBA player, or the college football player. Apparently, there are a few Lance Allreds running around.

By the way, I recall that Lance told me that this exact scene in Star Trek: Next Gen was what prompted him to study ancient Middle-Eastern languages.
