Also, it justifies cooperation for self-serving purposes; not moral reasons. | Any basis for morality is going to have to be something "not moral," or else morals become circular (they'd be morals because they're based on morals). |
That's a good point. I didn't see it like that before.
Well; I'll got to bed a little bit wiser today; thanks.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. | Oh hey, I just saw the clip. Don't know why I didn't look at it until now. Distracted I guess.
Anyhow, that was exactly what Tyson was talking about. Only at the reception, my arm was the astroid (headed for Santa Monica) and a bent straw stood in for the diversion device.
What is funny is how he plucked the straw from the womans drink and told her not to worry, he would return it. Then he bent it in half. So now I am wondering if the guy interviewing Tyson in the clip got his battery back.
When I do my write up I may want to use that clip. It's pure Tyson...
