Just think; six days after you are Raptured, you can have a really snotty e-mail sent to those unbelieving scumbags who are doomed to be Tribulated. And it's only US$40.00 a year for as many as 62 of 'em!

Yes! Sixty two deadly insults and there's no way they can give you the ass-kicking that you richly deserve 'cause you'll be squatting at the feet of God like a flatulent poodle, immune from all retribution. How awesome is that?!

For just $40 a year, believers can arrange for up to 62 people to get a final message exactly six days after the Rapture, that day when — according to Christian end times dogma — Christians will be swept up to heaven, while doubters are left behind to suffer seven years of Tribulation under a global government headed by the Antichrist.

“You've Been Left Behind gives you one last opportunity to reach your lost family and friends for Christ,” reads the website, which is purportedly run “by Christians, for Christians.” The domain name is registered through an anonymous proxy service, presumably to protect the proprietors from the Forces of Darkness, and not because they're up to anything shady.
Ok, yeah, but a little further on, we find this:
Users can also upload up to 150 megabytes of documents, which will be protected by an unidentified encryption algorithm until the Rapture, then released to up to 12 nonbelievers of your choice. The site recommends that you use that storage to house sensitive financial information.
Yeah buddy! Just put all of your financial info down and sent it along to them and all will be taken care of.

"By Christians, for Christians," eh? You betcha!

My question is, how would they know? I mean, the people who run the company should expect (snicker) to be raptured, too. If so, then they can't be around to run the program six days later!

Perhaps they have on salary some crack-using Jewish lesbian abortion-loving porn star who, after rapture, will push the "send" button...

Nah, you'd have a script that would count down six days and run whatever. You have a human interfere every day to reset the clock.

Yep; they explain in the linked article that it is basically how it is set up. If three out of 5 members of the staff fail to log on for 6 days...

I always had the dim feeling than expecting yourself to be among the raptured was committing the sin of pride and, implicitly, disqualified you...

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

A real doozy, ain't it? And timely, too, if the end-times whackos are to be believed.

But historically, believers -- of all sorts; I'm not just picking on Christians here -- are the easiest to con and it seems that the deeper the belief, the more effective the gaff. Just ask Benny Hinn, Harun Yahya or John Edward, or indeed, the shade of L. Ron Hubbard. Or even a flake like Uri Geller, who managed to parlay the simplest of parlor 'magic' into an excellent living in spite of being caught at it and ridiculed for it on numerous occasions.

To a grifter, belief is all. Get the mark to believe (in whatever) and you have him scalded, scraped & hanging, and ready to be gutted like an October hog. And it seems that many religious folks are predisposed to this. As they already believe in the impossible, it is but a small leap of faith for at least some of them to believe in the apparently possible, from their point of view, however improbable it might be from everyone elses. And the hallmark of a really good, long con is to keep the sucker(s) coming back for more.

This appears to be perfectly legal, at least up until the "Christians for Christians" begin to spend the money.

Of course, that presumes that no service (like electricity, or the Internet) is at least temporarily disabled. What if the power goes out? -well, the computer is set to reboot on when power comes back on... Ok, what if the fuse goes when power comes back on? Or something else happens to the computer that only requires it to be moved next door to be operational?
My server-PC went down hard this weekend after a power-outage last Thursday.

One would hope that for a "mission critical" application like this the server is located in a data center with UPS + generator and is running on a fault-tolerant computer (multiple CPUs, redundant RAM, RAID arrays, multiple power supplies), and part of a cluster where if one computer goes down the rest of the computers in the cluster can handle the application.

For some reason, my psychic powers are telling me that parts of what I just stated might not be in place.

This is the work of Satan. Nobody with the spiritual fortitude to actually get raptured would ever consider an after-the-fact taunting of those Left Behind. Anyone who signs up for this is, almost by definition, a Lefty.
