Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

I couldn't attend, because I was busy doing "alternative" work at the job. My supervisor came by and said "Hi, I need you to help Helen with circuit board assembly" and I ended up screwing circuit boards onto metal panels/frames all night. Though it was relaxing doing work that requires minimal brain activity, it kept me busy all night away from the computer.

Your supervisor wouldn't be Bill Lumbergh by any chance?

.

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

Quite the opposite actually. Temporarily re-assigning me doesn't happen often, she usually leave me to my own devices. (Both figuratively, and literally since I'm troubleshooting electronic devices )
She knows that what I do is way above her qualifications and leave up to me to set my own priorities.
I really do love my job... I just wish they would pay me better. Our company is generally under-paying it's employees, compared to similar work elsewhere.
