"This is my country and I love it. I will not see a few excited shouters stampede it into war. War is the particular business of a few men. Some of the ablest press agents of the world are hired to promote preparedness. Peace is everybody's business, and no one attends to it. If we are at peace; we owe it to one man, President Wilson." -HK
Naturally he had to make her into a bad person for opposing our glorius war and supporting the vile concept of civil rights.
| Yes, but neither qualify for the signature, although Keller's close and might make it yet. She is very interesting, but aside from the politics of the era, there was no destructive force.
How 'bout Hurricane Stalin? That might be a good one, as neither Bush nor Cheney seem to show any inclination to do the country the excellent favor of croaking, preferably messily.
Oh wait, neither of them is very interesting, either. It takes more than stupidity & greed to arouse historical interest.

Where do these African-American names come from, anyway? As someone sitting in the southern half of the continent, I parse most of those names as gibberish - except Jamal, that I know is Arabic.
I do like Hurricane Khan. Has a flair to it. |

| Back in the day, black babies were often named by the doctor that delivered them. When I was a boy, I knew a lady named "Donamer." Beyond that, I couldn't say.

| According to this site:Dinwiddie-Boyd identifies three ways that African-Americans choose names: taking traditional European names and changing their spelling and/or pronunciation to make them more distinctive; creating unique names that did not exist before; and using actual African names to reflect their cultural heritage. | I can't say whether or not actual data bear this out, but anecdotally, it seems to be true. |

I think it's fair to say Sheila Jackson Lee has no idea.
She is the mother of Erica Shelwyn, 20, and Jason Cornelius Bennett Lee, 14.

She is the mother of Erica Shelwyn, 20, and Jason Cornelius Bennett Lee, 14. | But wasn't Cornelius Bennett a former linebacker for the Bills? Does she have a connection to him? Or is this the same as me naming my kid "Joe Troy Aikman Schmo" [allowing for the fact that my last name isn't 'Schmo']? |

They should name the hurricanes after Japanese movie monsters. Hurricane Mechagodzilla anyone? Huricane Mothra? Then some lucky folks would be able to say "Yes, my home town was flattened by Godzilla." |

I totally second that notion.
And thanks for the link, Cune: as I thought, mostly gibberish, it seems, according to the woman. Ah well. |

If memory serves, the storms are named based on the majority populations in their path. From 1953 times.
Since these are North Atlantic storms, they would have primarily Spanish or English sounding names.
And does the Black Community really want to be associated with a massively destructive event such as a Hurricane.
Ask the folks who have names that have been retired.
If you look at the naming conventions of Western Pacific Typhoons, you will notice that there are no English sounding names what so ever.
We won't talk about Australia. They make my head hurt.
