In response to Obama's new add suggesting that McCain is in the pockets of Big Oil, this BBC article says Tucker Bounds defended McCain stating:

the advert failed to mention that Mr Obama had voted in favour of a 2005 bill giving tax breaks to energy producers, a bill Mr McCain had opposed.

Now I wonder why he used the phrase "energy producers"? A look at the actual bill reveals that the majority of provisions are regarding nonoil energy. The few that are oil are:

  • Exempts oil and gas producers from certain requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act;

  • Provides incentives to companies drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico;

  • Tax reduction in the amount of $2.8 billion for fossil fuel production

So while it is partially true that it did give tax breaks to oil companies, it did much more to help other sources of energy.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

And, correct me if I am wrong, the oil companies have donated little if anything to Obama's campaign whilst McCain's very recently recieved a good, fat wad -- some of the donations, it is said, possibly illegal.

These comnpanies and their coal contempories are as stupid as the heads of OPEC. They should have been at least researching alternative fuels and electrical power process' for years. Sometime down the road, they are going to suffer for their short-sightedness and their greed.

Oh, like dishonesty from political campaigns is news? Where are you from? Oh, never-mind...

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

I dunno -- loping their lizards on the Straight Talk Express, likely. The major media is as bought & paid for as the desks in their offices. It is to their advantage that such embarassments don't get a lot of public time.
