A less than kind person might begin to question the compentence of the medical team who performed the abortion, or at least their diagnostic techniques in this case.

Oh, wait.... Gotta be a miracle! There's no other answer.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that this story has been exaggerated.

Wait.... no one, not to mention an premature infant, could survive for 5 hours in a cooler!

Its a divine miracle, the first power (resurection)....

...or its the anti-christ!

If this story has a grain of truth, it has been distorted. More likely the father showed up five hours later at the cooler to collect the body and the infant was already in the ICU, having shown signs of life shortly after the procedure.

The premature baby was then taken to the intensive care ward, where doctors were attempting to save her life.

That makes it sound like they were rather unsuccessful. Then again, there are grammar errors throughout the piece, so who knows.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Reminds me of the story about the dog who was hit by a car, shot in the head, and then placed in a freezer. She lived as well.

Deep cooling slow down tissue damage.

I expect that, one day, it will be s.o.p. during difficult surgeries.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

You bunch of fracking atheists, this is obviously the Second Coming. Haven't you noticed there's been wars, famine, earthquakes, tsunamis, big storms, disease, etc. What else could this possibly be?!?!?! Clearly I don't need to guess who's on the Left Hand of God around here....

It already is in some parts of Russia. I saw a documentary on it a few years back. Mostly heart surgeries.

Really?

Way cool. Russian science does not have much money, but more often than not they compensate by ingenuity and ballsy moves.

And it does make sense too as they can stop the heart for longer that way.

Yeah. Russia has been using deep cooling for CABG surgery, as opposed to bypass heart/lung machines, for a long time. I first read some about this, I think, in the early 90s. IIRC, they were doing two vessel grafts in less than an hour (like 15-30 minutes) from the time they stopped the heart.

People have been recussitated after long periods of time in cold water. Same concept.

I guess it's not a miracle after all.
A premature baby who "came back to life" Monday five hours after she was declared dead and taken to the morgue, died early Tuesday morning.

When the baby girl's mother gave birth after going into premature labor at the hospital, the doctor on the scene pronounced the 610-gram fetus dead and it was taken to the morgue.

The father, Ali Majdub, told Channel 2 that his wife realized the child was alive after asking to see her dead daughter one last time.

"When we unwrapped the baby to see her, she realized it was moving. I began screaming and ran with it toward the doctors," he said.

She was then rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit, where doctors fought for her life.
God does like to play his little jokes. Turns out that this is another one.

seems more likely to me that the baby was never actually dead. There's no way they can know the baby started breathing after 5 hours in a cooler. It was probably breathing the whole time. Maybe the Doctor was chinese?

And there is always the possibity that a deal was done to late-abort an unwanted but in excellent health baby.

I have a nasty, suspicious mind, you say? Why thank you!
