....oh my!

In the midst of our current political spasm over Republican presidential nominees and their various foibles (Obama doesn't seem to have very many foibles), we've forgotten, or at least shelved, Congressional misdeeds.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has released its fourth annual report, "CREW's Most Corrupt Members of Congress, outlining Washington politicians who it says have "most egregiously betrayed the public's trust."

12 of the 24 members of Congress listed in the report are under investigation. The thirteenth, New York Congressman Charlie Rangel, has opened a House ethics investigation on himself.
What is interesting here is the proportion: R vs. D. The Republicans out-number Democrats by enough to make me wonder if a certain genetic type (the lying poltroon gene?) is more attracted to that party.

Anyhow, here you have it and it's conceivable that it only scratches the surface.

I suspect it's not genetic, Fil, but I can't prove it.

I think there are actually a fair number of Democrats who got into Congressional politics due to idealistic motivations of public service. Then the lobbyists came sniffing around, and too many of those Democrats were corrupted.

I think the Republicans in Congress, by contrast, were nearly all recruited by the lobbyists and private interest groups before they even ran for office. They don't need to be corrupted. They started that way.
